Hello all,

Recently divorced as of July, and was wondering if anyone knew about special circumstances to reduce child support, particularly in CT.

I'm not at all looking to dodge the responsibility, but there are factors outside of raw income that are skewing the slider for the support obligation.

CT takes both parents incomes, determines the support amount needed off that total, and then applied a percentage of obligation based off what the non custodial parent contributed to the whole.

My ex only works part time (and in a school system, so not even full year). I have a full time job, and have had to pick up a part time job just to manage the expenses of having my own place, etc etc.

My concern is that she receives a large amount of financial support from her parents, with whom she lives with the kids. No rent, no utilities, gas money, use of their cars, and no or reduced grocery bills, etc. It all adds up.

I understand the support obligation is to cover the childrens portion of living expenses regardless, but she is receiving what equates to a large amount of in kind income, and does not have any imminent need or requirement to work full time. It comes accross as though it's beneficial for her to not work full time in order to keep my support portion higher.

Can I argue as part of a modification her special circumstances, ie non wage income in the form of familial support? I can't afford an attorney to fully represent me, so I am looking for any form of advice from folks who may have been through similar. PM me if you wish to discuss, or I'll check back here. Thanks in advance for any and all guidance!
