If you're American Title IX and Title VI cover sex and race discrimination, respectively. I think someone needs to sue one of these schools over these kinds of things. Until the court actually starts punishing these institutions they'll act like nothing is wrong. I'm sure there are some rights groups out there looking to sue and just biding there time for a plaintiff.

I would talk to a lawyer first, and wait until after you have your diploma. I am worried about bringing up any of my title IX issues because I don’t want to start an investigation they can and would turn around to target a white male. It seems possible that they take away my degree or something. I just want to get on with my life. None of my experiences were nearly as extreme as yours.

Sorry you are having to go through that. But its a higher end art college so I'm not too surprised they hate white men.

It seems like the more expensive schools have some of the worst education these days. The Ivy League schools and such have become SJW hellholes.

Also, use ratemyprofessors.com if you aren't already.

My friend I am ina very similar situation to yours, though I'm only just finishing my 2nd year now, and I'm in a Canadian institution which means all the examples you gave are the norm here.

The only thing you didn't mention, hopefully because you don't experience it there, is the very obvious undertones of communism. I'm not saying that as a joke, I've listened to profs talk about communism as a very positive thing, seen people deny the horrors of real communism shown by the Soviets and Maoist China, and seen tons of the communist and socialist club's posters plastered all around campus. It's eyebrow-raising to say the least.

As for the discrimination... I pretend not to notice it. I'm a visibly white male, but if asked I always say I'm native (it's not a lie but it also doesn't affect who I am as a person) just to avoid being labelled a cis-het-white-male. Avoidance is key, because people here have spoken out before and been shut down, so I keep my head down, smile and nod politely when people say awful shit about men and white people, and ignore that my lack of minority status and "inherent privilege" restricts me from applying to many bursaries, because yes many of the bursaries at my school have certain ethnic and sex-based prerequisites.

After I graduate though, I don't give a single fuck what anyone in this place thinks about me. I'll be able to actually express myself and how I feel about discrimination like this, which is sad considering that I'm in a Bachelor of Fine Arts, expressing myself should be part of the curriculum

I sympathize with you man, sounds like you landed in a VERY uppity school.

I do gotta point out real quick, in response to your dilemma about artists and gentrification. Artists are big catalysts in gentrification, however the secret ingredient you and your classmates are forgetting is intentionality. As you say, it is the invisible hand guiding artists movement into low income neighborhoods. They aren’t intentionally gentrifying their communities, so they shouldn’t be blamed, but they ARE gentrifying the communities.
