The #MeToo movement must choose between an allegiance to identity politics and the pursuit of justice.

The movement already made that choice a long time ago.

“Justice” implies that you can pay off a debt to society. Right now a lot of men, whether guilty or not, are ruined for life (sometimes for the crime of asking for consent or not being a mind reader).

Interesting piece but I think there's a more basic problem with identity politics.

I had this discussion with another gay guy many years ago. For him being gay is a core aspect of his identity, absolutely fundamental to his personality. For me it's a minor detail. One of the least interesting things about me and only relevant to who I sleep with. He could not wrap his head around that. It was like telling him I was alien.

If he or others want to feel that their sexuality is an integral part of their identity, I reckon that's their prerogative. It doesn't bother me. Gay culture would have been a refuge from hatred for many and attachment to it is understandable. But I don't think it's logical or ideal.

People are people. No one should feel more or less or special or different because of things like skin colour, sexuality or gender. Or be disadvantaged because of them. While many people may not ever give the issue of identity politics much thought, I suspect this is how many would feel.
