No to the gender violence law. Another one of Vox’s goals is “repealing the gender violence law and any other law that discriminates against one of the sexes, and replace it with a family violence law that will afford the same protection to the elderly, men, women and children who suffer from abuse. Eliminating subsidized radical feminist groups, and effectively prosecuting phony complaints. Protecting minors during divorce proceedings.”

I think that's the first time I've ever heard a political party suggest such a thing.

[–]TheWritingParadox 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Same, and it gives me a little hope. I don't know how it will end, but the first step to fixing a problem is recognizing it and, well, it appears they have.

[–]Wisemanner 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The fact that they got a number of seats is encouraging.

[–]TheWritingParadox 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Indeed. We shall see what happens in the future.

Vox is a far right spanish party. They are not happy with women holding right to open their own banks accounts....

Some ideas sounds great but the devil is in the details.

They want to ban any inmigration, even those who has already spanish nationality if they don't "look" spanish.

They are strongly opposed to the European Union and they want to use the army against Catalonia if they try to secede again, intead of talk (which is what the actual goverment is doing and succeding.

Far right always uses half true, I agree that "gender violence" law is pure shit and has to be reworked but not to rush and pay attention where you put your vote.

It's difficult to tell what is far right and what is just not globalist-friendly these days. Speaking up for Male Human Rights is labelled as far right by some. Which is a big problem, since if the left (I'm a leftist btw) ignores these actually and truly left wing, humanist issues then the right (and the far right) can incorporate them into their policies and entice voters over.

And they are doing so. I hope the mainstream left wake up to this, since it's not the far right they really need to worry about, it's just the normal right (getting power I mean, nothing nasty).

Why do you lie?

[–]Wisemanner 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow! Can we have one in the UK, please?

[–]Fuckoff555 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Great, we need more political parties that speak against such discrimination.

The structure of power. Vox rejects Spain’s current system of devolved regional powers. Point 6 of the program clearly states as a goal: “Transforming the Estado autonómico into a state with a single set of laws that will promote equality and solidarity instead of privilege and division. One single government and one single parliament for all of Spain. As a preliminary step, [we want] the immediate devolution of powers over education, health, security and justice, and to curtail regional legislative power as much as possible.”

No problem there, works well for the rest of Europe.

National heroes. The party wants to introduce “an integral plan to encourage knowledge, awareness and protection of the national identity and of Spain’s contribution to civilization and to universal history, with a special focus on the achievements and deeds of our own national heroes.” Vox wants to “put the needs of Spain and Spaniards ahead of the needs of oligarchies, chieftains, lobbies or supranational groups.”

No problem there, so long as that isn’t code for excluding the works of Spanish minority groups that Vox-supporters don’t particularly like.

Protecting minors during divorce proceedings.” Vox also wants to create a Family Ministry and introduce “an organic law protecting the natural family, which shall be recognized as an institution that came before the State.”

This, a thousand times. Sad that it’s taking a “far right” political party to advocate for a non-sexist law on this issue.

No to immigration. The party plans to “control immigration flows depending on the needs of our national economy and of the new arrivals’ ability to integrate into Spanish society and accept our values. There will be country quotas with favorable treatment for nationalities who share our language and who have significant cultural and friendship ties with Spain.” As for illegal immigrants, Vox wants to deport them all and to go after non-profit groups that help them get to Spain. If a migrant still manages to enter the country illegally, he or she will “be permanently ineligible for legal status, and thus ineligible for any form of state aid.” Years of residency will not be considered an acceptable cause for naturalization.

Mmm...no, don’t agree fully there. Assimilation and keeping rates of immigration manageable are important, but deporting people who illegally immigrated to your country 20 years ago and have spent the last 19 of it working, paying taxes, and raising a family in your country should not be uprooted. The same standards these folks have for new immigrants should apply to old illegals: if they’ve assimilated and are being productive members of society, insist they become full citizens, but let them stay if they do.

Eliminating wasteful spending. Vox wants to “cut back on wasteful spending,” although few details are provided. Overall, the party wants “no more regional authorities, political spending, arbitrary appointments, advisors, official cars, or subsidies for political parties, unions and business associations.” The Constitutional Court would be eliminated altogether and its tasks assigned to the Supreme Court. The Senate would also be axed.

Don’t know enough about Spain’s economy or government to comment here really, but based on what conservatives in America have considered “wasteful” in the past, I’m skeptical I’d agree on all counts with Vox.

Education and health. The party proposes “one single system of public healthcare and education for the entire national territory in order to guarantee that all Spaniards are free and equal in terms of their right to public services.” Vox also wants to introduce Spanish language examinations at the end of each mandatory school cycle, and to request express parental authorization before children receive an education in “ethical, social, civic, moral or sexual values.”

Nah, this sounds like they want to set up a system wherein the rich can afford to send their kids to private schools and then vote to defund all the public options. And that last sentence could easily reflect a desire to keep all talk of sex education, homosexuality, transfolk, and any worldview they don’t like out of the school system. Now they’re starting to sound like nationalists.

Taxes? What taxes? Vox’s position on taxes is “the lower, the better.” The party is proposing a single income tax rate of 21%, with an exemption for the first €12,000 of earnings plus a €3,000 deduction for every child or dependent relative in the household. “This will represent €250 a month more in paychecks and pensions,” says the party. Vox wants lower corporate and property taxes, and it plans to lift all taxes on electricity bills. The party is also proposing doing away entirely with estate tax, inheritance tax and capital gains tax. Finally, Vox wants lower social security contributions for self-employed workers.

Nope. That’s a system wherein the rich get richer and the poor stay poor. No thanks.

Fight against corruption. Vox wants to eliminate government pardons, to establish tougher punishment for corruption-related crimes, and “a judicial power that is national in scope, independent, and professional.” The program adds that Vox would include wasteful spending by elected officials as a new offense in the criminal code.

Prove corruption occurred? All for harsher justice for corrupt politicians. But this sounds like what they really want is to criminalize certain political views and agendas, which is fascist.

Islamic fundamentalism. Vox wants to “shut down fundamentalist mosques,” to “regain control of our borders,” and to “arrest and deport extremist imams.” The party also opposes the idea of Turkey joining the European Union. Spain should participate in “military combat missions against the Jihadist threat” and build “an insurmountable wall in Ceuta and Melilla.” Vox also wants to reclaim Gibraltar and to “recover our sway in Europe and the world – the sway that our people, our economy and our history deserve.”

Again, no problem, so long as “fundamentalist” means “demonstrably violent or making calls to violence,” and not “believes in Allah even though the New Inquistion has visited repeatedly and dropped off pamphlets on Christ, which were ignored.”

I am still quite sad that the Left—whose principles I agree with more on most other issues—has its head so far up its ass on equality that I’m forced to look to arch conservatives for any action on these issues. I really wish we could have the sane Left back, before feminism made it no longer about individual rights and equality, and turned it into the party of “Progressive Racism and Sexism.”

100% yes. Feminism and related champagne socialism of the chattering classes has turned a lot of the left into something that actually works against the working classes.

These are some of their positions:

*Vox takes a pro-life stance on abortion and opposes same-sex marriage because they consider the Spanish word for marriage, "matrimonio", to be etymologically inadequate for same sex couples. Vox seeks to create a new type of union, called a "civil union", to replace same-sex marriage.

Starting with a focus in economically liberal stances and recentralization proposals, the focus of their message shifted towards stances compatible with European right-wing populism, endorsing anti-Islam and anti mass-immigration discourses as well as criticism of multiculturalism. Their view of European Union is that of a soft euroscepticism, arguing that Spain should make no sovereignty concessions to the EU, because they consider Spanish sovereignty to reside in the Spanish nation alone. However, they propose to remove Spain's autonomous communities, negating the sovereignty of other nationalities and regional identities within Spain.

Vox is considered antifeminist, and wants to repeal the gender violence law*

Voting for a party with one good set of policies when most other policies are complete shit is just trading one big problem for a bigger problem. Their tax policies alone will fuck Spain right up for a good long time.

I want to say it's good at least that someone is bringing up some of our issues, and it is, but a far right party could taint the message.

[–]Wisemanner 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed. Unfortunately, their other polices seem idiotic. But they may well help bring attention to the gender violence law.

[–]EduBA[S] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe you're right, but not being myself a Spanish citizen nor resident I focus in the good that this vote brings to the world, specially to Latin American countries like mine where Spanish laws on gender issues are copypasted.

[–]Razorbladekandyfan -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Again, far right loons.

[–]Lethn 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Do you even know what 'far right' is? Genuine question.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Religious, traditionalist, nationalist and authoritarian.

I'm not fighting for Men's Rights just to swap one moral absolutist authoritarian regime for another different moral absolutist authoritarian regime.

Even thought that particular moral absolutist authoritarian regime happens to want to privilege my gender instead of oppress it, I still whole heartedly trust them to find other reasons to oppress me. I want the government and large institutions (universities and large corporations) to stop trying to control how people should behave outside of physical abuse. With maybe a tiny little bit of assistance to prevent verbal abuse.

This.comment.

Obviously not. I mean its not like you can read what it is and then correlate that to a party's ideology.
