In my country the highest law of the land, the constitution, makes sex discrimination only against men legal. So there is no legal mechanism available. Is it still all my fault because I’m a man?

My story about using our human Rights commission to overturn a program that excluded men.

A health programme that a general practitioner could refer women only to was started in my region of New Zealand. About 700 women per year were doing a free 6 week course to lead them to better lifestyle choices.

Men in the same situation were being too by the GP to lose weight, exercise more, and drink less. All sage advice, but men weren't also offered the course.

The district health board said they would be extending it to men to, but didn't get around to it. After about 2 years I got onto them using our human Rights complaint process on the basis of gender.

It took about 18 months and other advocacy by me in the public eye but they eventually allowed men on the course. They changed the course content a bit to fit the men.

Ta da!

I could say a lot more about what I learned they the process but won't right now.

Any other similar stories it there?
