My dad knew this guy through a close family friend. What Dr. Money did to David Reimer was nothing short of criminal - and I'm not just talking about the gender reassignment surgery. There was a lot of other really dark and creepy things the doctor did to David.

Elaborate. Please please elaborate.

[–]Jex117 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

This pretty much covers it.

Really sick twisted shit. Human experimentation.

My family took a hit when he committed suicide. A few months after he took his own life our dad told us about his friend who blew his head off with a shotgun.

My dad talks about something Reimer talked about to him - that insanity is very difficult to define on a global / historical scale. That every western / modern interpretation of insanity doesn't hold up in other regions / during other periods - that sanity and insanity are just a matter of perspective. Madness is subjective.

He usually finishes that story off with "and then a few years later he blew his head off with a shotgun."

Jesus fucking christ, I...i have no words. Oh my god.

This is one of the saddest stories I've ever heard.

His brother also died because of an overdose of anti-depressants...

Man. Talk about the medical community completely screwing over an entire family.

This happened in Canada. This happened in Canada.

John Money was just a complete cunt.

[–]Jex117 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Doesn't fully describe the genuine malevolence shown by Dr Money. He used the Reimer twins as guinea pigs for his human experimentation. Saying he was 'just a complete cunt' doesn't quite describe true evil.

Back in school we discussed this story in ethics class. Really tragic, how it affected and cut short his life :( That Money guy seems to lack any respect for children, I mean, having them play sex? wtf? This is why ethics is important >:[

Did they discuss the morality of parents deciding to mutilate their son’s genitals ? Or just the morality of their decision to raise him as a girl instead ?

[–]jacksleepshere[S] 16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Before he replies, have a guess.

The injury being caused by curcumcision wasn't mentioned. I don't think I even knew about circumcision at the time. Nobody really does it in my country.

[–]Jex117 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's how it all started. Davids circumcision was botched; his brothers wasn't.

If it weren't for the circumcision, this family would've never been exposed to the controlling influence of Dr. Money.

Damn his psychologist basically destroyed two young men life.

He made them do terrible things if the wikipedia page is accurate.

more than two... "His psychologist concluded that the gender reassignment had been a success which led to thousands of other cases of gender reassignment."

His parents did when they decided to mutilate him for no reason.

He was a healthy child.

[–]TheCaptainDammit -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

From what I recall Reimer had some sort of problem (I think it was UTIs) that caused a doctor recommend circumcision. It turned out to be a BS recommendation but his parents did think they were following a legitimate medical recommendation. This wasn't one of those "just for the hell of it" circumcisions that was done at birth.

[–]platesizedareola 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Thats a lie. Watch the documentary about him. Both him and his twin were cut right after birth.

[–]TheCaptainDammit 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Here's my source.

Twins Bruce and Brian Reimer were born in Canada as two perfectly normal boys. But after seven months, both were having difficulty urinating.

Acting on advice, the parents, Janet and Ron, took the boys to the hospital for a circumcision.

The next morning, they received a devastating phone call - Bruce had been involved in an accident.

Doctors had used a cauterizing needle instead of a blade, and the electrical equipment had malfunctioned and the surge in current had completely burned off Bruce's penis.

"I could not comprehend what he was talking about," Janet Reimer remembered.

"I thought they were going to use a knife. I didn't know there was electricity involved."

Brian's operation was cancelled, and the Reimers took their twins home.

Here's a second source:

But within six months, both boys develop difficulty urinating. The doctors suggest they be circumcised.

On April 27, 1966, Janet drops her boys off for the routine procedure and her dream turns into a nightmare.

The doctors had chosen an unconventional method of circumcision, one in which the skin would be burned. The procedure goes horribly wrong and Bruce's penis is burned so badly it can't be repaired surgically.

Yeah that sounds totally believeable... /s

[–]TheCaptainDammit 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You think the BBC isn’t a credible source?

[–]platesizedareola 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Not always no.

Healthy twin boys just both happened to need a circumcision? I call bullshit.

[–]TheCaptainDammit 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well they didn't actually need the operation. The twin brother's was cancelled after the accident with the first one and he got better on his own. As with many phimosis diagnoses it was bullshit. The parents were told the boys had a real problem though. Not their fault they were misled by shitty, non-evidence based medicine.

[–]platesizedareola -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. They should have been born here in Europe.

[–]BushMadeFrogsGay 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Isn't this what the 60 genders bullshit is based on?

[–]jacksleepshere[S] 13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Kind of, his psychologist, John Money, believed in people being gender neutral and that gender was taught. He was a complete mong.

[–]Jex117 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's exactly it; Dr. Money believed humans are born gender neutral, and that raising them as another gender will fit perfectly well.

He was wrong.

[–]BernieSandersgirl101 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That "doctor" is basically a Canadian Josef Mengele. He should have been put in jail. Why wasn't he?

[–]platesizedareola 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If he had been born in Europe, he would still be alive. We are smart enough not to mutilate babies.

[–]tacticalslacker 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

...yet dumb enough to keep fighting the same wars.

[–]platesizedareola 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thanks for proving my point.
