To begin, I come from a solid middle class family. Brought up by mom and dad. My parents are almost 15 years apart. Dad married mom when she was 30, he was about 45. Owned his own business for close to 10 years but later went back to school when I was an infant. My dad is a recovering alcoholic. Mom works menial jobs at department stores as cashier, etc. She actually did go to school to become an LPN before she met my dad but hasn't done anything with it as far as I know.
Growing up my parents were loving or maybe just super helicopter parents, narcissistic, too emotionally attached but discipline wasn't really there. When I was getting in trouble with the law (later disqualified me from joining the military) and doing drugs as a young teenager they both turned a blind eye for the most part. They literally let me do drugs in the house. (No longer do drugs) After suffering severe depression for close to a decade I discovered TRP. I first blew it off because honestly it was too hard to take in. It made me even more depressed... so almost a year later I'm where I'm at now...started reading more & more. I thought, fuck this. I can't go on like this any longer. I admit I'm still in the anger phase but I got to do what I got to do.
Reading more and more of TRP I feel like an atom bomb went off in my head. I realized I was raised a straight up bitch by alpha mom & and my beta dad. Mom is definitely calling the shots, getting pedicures, decorating the house with useless bullshit, shaming my dad for becoming pretty overweight, making snide remarks when he eats, I could go on but I'm not. This man I call my father works fucking 60+ hours a week to this day at mid 60's and my mom doesn't give a fuck about him. It all makes sense now (especially after reading The Manipulated Man). My dad is closest to me out of all the siblings and I know he is depressed. He told me the other day that he's starting to question how he's been raising our family, saying he feels like he mixed money with happiness, and that he's confused because he was raised by his folks (WW2 vet and mom worked at a bank) to think family is everything, etc.
I may be part of the situation. Growing up I was kind of a bad kid. I'm trying to get my shit straight now. All my siblings and I are very distant. Everyone is pretty distant in the house. It's gotten to the point where I'm seriously considering selling all my shit and hitting the road or buying a van to live out of. I have a lot of learning and reading to do but right now I need some advice.
