So I’m married to an alcoholic who is “trying” to get sober. I love him so much but how do I protect myself and my assets in case things get ugly and end up filing a divorce?

Soo, the odds of relapse are rather high with alcoholism and may lead to legal troubles. I dont think you should be planning for divorce, alcoholism is a disease and divorcing someone because they have a disease is fucked up.

But, what you should begin doing is talking to him about separating assets due to the possibility of lawsuits. Car accidents with injury, fights, property damage are all things that can cause your husband to be sued if he relapses. If your assets are seperate, you may be able to protect some of the assets you share.
