It is obvious that they don't care about men. Yet they allow clementine ford to shout , kill all men.

I just heard this guy on the radio and thought he gave DV, suicide and expectations of males some good insight. IMO he gives some refreshing and balanced analysis of current social trends.

In summary:
- Every day a man will kill 1 woman [said on the radio, not in the article]
- Every day 6 men will commit suicide

Suicide claims almost three times more lives than road accidents, and over 30 times more lives than domestic violence. So where is the public outrage? Where is the government funding?

...

Amongst men in their forties and fifties, there is a very good chance that a man who attempts suicide is involved in some sort of custody dispute.

...

Either men are less resilient than we think they are, or the way society is treating them is overcoming what resilience they have. Given the incidence of male suicide is increasing, it suggests the problem is something in society.

Men are more likely to be lonely, homeless, imprisoned, and to suicide. Anything that contributes to this, or which stops men getting help, must be reformed or swept aside.

Come on bro, stay strong. Don't let them win. I'm sitting here snorting dope because my life sucks and drugs help me forget that for a little bit. Not telling you to do drugs lol just saying a lot of us have shitty lives as well but we keep on living cuz it's gonna end eventually anyway.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Have you sought help? Doctor, psychologist, any kind of support group?

I need to, but I don't have the money or time for it, as well as my anxiety and depression getting in the way.

Wherever you live, there might be some kind of free support available. If you're comfortable sharing that info - like country and state - someone here might know of something suitable or we could search online to help you find it.

All I want is to not feel this crippling loneliness

There's one positive - you know what you want. Maybe you don't know how to achieve that right now but it's a clear goal and that's a good foundation to build on.

Got a name, or at least a station?

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think they mean the author of this article - Bill O'Chee.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's a good article.

Gets straight to the point. Keeps it simple and factual.

I'm a 51yo male and also a psych nurse, last year I came close to suicide and have an ongoing depression that I am getting appropriate treatment for.

And yes.....my 5yo son was the main issue.

I have the skills and the knowledge to help other men in a situation like this and have a very special interest in it......so, if anyone reading this wants some impartial, professional advice please message me.

[–]Imnotmrabut 4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Sorry but a 2 day old account on this issue really should not be trusted.

Give advise publically, but asking folks to go private with you is a pattern with connotations of Sociopathy and worse.

Build trust publically .....

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's possible that with MR being such a loathed group that they're using a newly created account to avoid hate.

I regularly get hate spewed at me in other subs just because I'm a member of this one. Especially someone who is experiencing depression might want to steer clear of that. It's possible their offer is legit and entirely well intentioned.

But yes I agree that inviting people to message them privately to advise on depression is unwise.

Psych nurses don't diagnose depression and they assist in administering treatment but it's psychiatrists or psychologists who determine what that is. Their own experience isn't without value but depression has a lot of different potential causes and accordingly a lot of different potential treatments. Their own experience of depression will only be one narrow slice of that pie.

As I and others have replied this is probably not a good idea.

If you want to volunteer online counselling, I'm sure you could find an organisation which offers that who'd be happy to have someone with your professional credentials and personal experience.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

If you're truly a psych nurse offering professional psychological advice on the Internet, I want to have a chat with your professional association so I can get your license revoked.

Get lost, you troll.

[–]slodojo 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don’t necessarily disagree with you guys but Jesus Christ. He’s going to attempt suicide again.

[–]mudman99 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fact or opinion?

[–]ThirdTurnip 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

That's a bit harsh.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

I absolutely disagree.

For one, no psych nurse is cleared to diagnose and treat, anywhere in North America. Secondly, offering to provide private, professional help to strangers over the Internet is an egregious violation of the ethical standards of all the associations currently in operation in North America. This person is intentionally violating their professional standards. Above all else, this is putting possibly very fragile and possibly even suicidal people at risk. Finally, this is a known m.o. for people who jerk people in crisis around.

Any reasonably competent, ethical, and patient centered psych nurse would be handing out toll free numbers and encouraging people to call, or encouraging them to find the mental health supports in their region, not offering to do some ad hoc therapy for people via PM.

This person is NOT a psych nurse. I'm not going to pretend they are, either.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

For one, no psych nurse is cleared to diagnose and treat, anywhere in North America.

I have a psych degree myself. I'm aware of this and made that point in reply to someone else.

Psych nurses don't diagnose depression and they assist in administering treatment but it's psychiatrists or psychologists who determine what that is.

If they really are a psych nurse I'd agree that they're colouring outside the lines.

This person is NOT a psych nurse.

We get a lot of fakers here. No question. This person might be one of them. Their more recent comments:

Fact or opinion?

do make them sound increasingly like one of those.

That said, I don't think going into attack mode was the best option.

1) If they're a troll, you've given them the kind of reaction they'd get off on.

2) Whether they're a troll or not, you've potentially made MRs look like a bunch of angry dicks. Don't be surprised if a screenshot of your reply ends up gracing the feminist subs as "proof" of how evil MRs are. That might have been their game.

3) If they're not a troll and instead are just acting in a well-intentioned but professionally questionable manner, a polite suggestion steering them towards safer ground is possible. Eg.

As I and others have replied this is probably not a good idea.

If you want to volunteer online counselling, I'm sure you could find an organisation which offers that who'd be happy to have someone with your professional credentials and personal experience.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

In my experience, once you've outed them as a troll, the behaviour stops, at least in that moment. They crave the battle, and if you expose them but do not engage them in a back and forth, you've won. They want to waste your time and see you engage them, and you avoid both with a simple exposure and walking away.

As for the 'feeding the feminists'. It's possible, and it definitely happens in here, but with the specific text that I wrote it's pretty clear why I'm responding the way I did. I don't think it's particularly useful in this regard.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In my experience, once you've outed them as a troll, the behaviour stops, at least in that moment.

Maybe with that account, and even then often not.

But soon enough there'll be a new troll post with a new virgin account, written in an eerily similar voice.

Fact or opinion?

[–]mudman99 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I am pleasantly disgruntled at the replies that have been generated by this post of mine.

Let me be clear on a few points:

Inviting someone privately to contact......there is no way I would take on a private council in role given the inherent risk of this. What I was saying is if someone had been at the end of their tether and a little empathy would have made them feel better then what is a problem?

The role of nurse seems to confuse some of you, disregarded by others in favour of psychologists or psychiatrists. I CAN AND DO diagnose, initiate treatment and assess risk on a day to day basis. I am able to prescribe and am proficient in Psychoanalysis (qualified) and CBT / DBT (also qualified)......I do a combined role but am classed as a nurse.

"Build trust publicly"......this is a virtual world of words and opinions, a simple human gesture made by me in a real world of pain.....I appreciate the comments but really, I do not need to build 'respect' on a forum that if deleted from a hard drive would never have existed.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

If we avoid the subject, those of us in the media merely shirk our social responsibility.
Foremost is the way they are treated by the Family Court.

Yet the article barely goes into any details at all about the family holocaust court of Australia. Funny that.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I think that's smart.

Focus too much on that and the hard-core feminists would both be more inclined to and have an easier time drowning this.

He has presented chilling statistics and a simple, kind message of "we should care about this". While doing that he also raised the issue unfairness in the Family Court.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Read it again idiot - he was the one pointing out the lack of discussion on these issues, not me.

[–]ThirdTurnip 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm not the idiot here.

You criticized the article for not going into sufficient detail about this issue:

Yet the article barely goes into any details at all about the family holocaust court of Australia. Funny that.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually yes, you just confirmed it with that non-argument.

it is all part of a program, that is why no one cares about it.

Exactly like all these nutritional supplements sold in USA and worldwide that raise your level of estrogen, and thus annihilate our normal male hormones, making us weaker, more submissive and easily controllable. A reason why women took the power lately.
