Let me tell you what I think and this is just speculation, I could be wrong.
I believe that the old tote about how only ugly people are ever labelled creepy is only partially true. You are only being creepy if the other person isn’t attracted to you. It is possible to find someone attractive without being attracted to them.
Let’s say that a very good looking heterosexual man is romantically interested in a woman. She does not like him back, because she is a lesbian. He insists that sexual orientation is a choice, he would be okay with her rejecting him, because she is interested in another guy, but rejecting him because she likes girls is unacceptable, so says this hypothetical man. It does not matter how good looking he is, not only will be be labelled a creep, he will be labelled homophobic.
