he was found guilty of 4 different offenses, she was guilty of 2.

so no, they were not "same crime, different time"...but I'm not going to judge because the article didn't bother providing the slightest details about what they were guilty of. Journalism is dead.

The issue you bring up is procedural, the problem is systemic.

They clearly committed the same crime (as in, the actual crime) why did he have different charges? Why was his plea less favorable?

The procedural equivocation ignores the systemic reality.

Lori pled guilty to "wire and mail fraud" and "mail fraud and honest services wire and mail fraud", Singer pled to "racketeering conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy, conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruction of justice"

they are not the same crimes. that's how the law works. you're guilty of the stuff you actually do.

The crime THEY commited was bribing officials to get their child into univ. The DA piled on charges for HIM but NOT FOR HER, that's the systemic part that has been studied, that men having significantly more charges laid for the SAME CRIME. To give an example of this.

Recently there was a murder that happened in my local area, the daughter killed her mother with the help of her boyfriend. HE was charged with 1st degree murder AND attempted 1st degree murder of ONE PERSON (her mother) while the daughter was only charged with 1st degree murder. IT actually made no sense why she was only charged with one crime while he was charged with two crimes. Now add in the fact that the boyfriend didn't actually kill anyone, she did and it makes even less sense.

They pled guilty to different charges, so no, not the same crime.

It is the same crime, their actions were the same, they bought off school officials, both of them did it. Do people not understand that a DA could have laid a 1000 charges against these people and pled them down BEFORE TRIAL. Hell he could have charged them with Jay walking, doesn't mean he would have gotten a conviction, in fact DAs always overcharge in order to force a plea deal, it's what is systemically wrong.

Obviously he was more guilty.

He actually was...

Lori pled guilty to "wire and mail fraud" and "mail fraud and honest services wire and mail fraud", Singer pled to "racketeering conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy, conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruction of justice"
