Judge strikes down key parts of Michigan's sex offender law as unconstitutional

Unpopular opinion, but I think we should get rid of sex offender registries altogether. They've served their time and they are human beings that a chance to be a productive member of society. Not to mention all "sex offenses" are created equal. An 18 year old who exchanged nudes with a 16 year old should not be lumped in with baby rapists.

And they haven't been shown to decrease reoffense rates either. If anything they make it worse because they make it harder for these people to reintegrate themselves into society. Sex offenders are much more likely to be jobless or homeless than the population at large. Wherever they go, people can look them up and they are labeled as perverts and pedophiles and assumed to be the worse of humanity.

Whatever dreams, whatever potential they had, stripped away. Simply because the nature of their crime involved sex. Violent criminals don't even have it as hard.
