“I think boys and girls are really suffering from this. Girls are more overt in their experience. Girls tend to have more internalizing systems — more sadness, more physical insecurities. Boys tend to be more irritable, more easily frustrated, angry and also have more substance abuse,” McIntosh explained.

WTF... Girls experience their sufferring more both internally and externally, while boys are just butthurt and on the dope?? Fuck you, lady!

We shouldn't have to force feed kids drugs to keep them from killing themselves. This whole discussion is insane. There's something wrong with society on a fundamental level, and it isn't "misogyny."

Also, of course people on antidepressants are more likely to have suicidal thoughts. That's why they've been prescribed antidepressants. And at a certain point we have to just admit that suicide can be a rational reaction to an irrational life.

This is a really good article but I think they are missing another factor, the breakdown of a relationship (although I guess that could fall into social media too) but I think the reason they didn’t include it is because they weren’t looking for what affects what gender more. I seem to remember Dr. Warren Farrell wrote a paper about this and why this affects men more especially men if he was the one who got dumped. He said it has more to do with the male brian that feels like it has purpose if it is doing something useful and having a wife and a girlfriend alone is enough to fulfill that purpose because then the would base their value on their ability to provide and protect them. If she breaks it off, the man will believe he has failed to fulfill his basic purpose. They will feel like they are too poor or too weak to have any value as a human being and don’t deserved to be loved and so they will fall into a pit of depression and end up killing themselves over feelings of loneliness and worthlessness.

That paper is called “The Evolution of Love: From Role Mate to Soul Mate”
