I think it's wrong to call shame an epidemic, but the whole "woke" online shame is definitely an issue. Shame can be a useful tool in a culture, but when you're not interacting face to face, or you're doing it as some competition, you can't gain anything but a self-absorbed sense of satisfaction. Shame is a huge part of Catholicism, but publicly deriding and humiliating a person is not. At least when it's in person you feel the shame to tell the person privately or be constructive, rather than attacking them. When it's online, you absolve yourself of any shame because by doing this your are superior, you get the last word no matter what.

What I think is truely insane is that they pat each other on the back for it.

I thought this article might be relevant because of how many of us have been attacked for questioning both in the past and currently. It has flaws and is really not aimed at us, but I can still see the relevance.

And shame is stupid. It worsens the problem that you are trying to solve. It blocks empathy towards the person who is shamed while at the same time making sure the person shamed will be unable to feel any empathy.
