See I am in a weird place since I regard myself as a strong feminist and am uncomfortable with what seems to me to be an angry anti-female undertone to some of the discourse here.

But I have also been banned from r/MensLib for the reasons you describe.

These people don't even see us as human beings.

I don't think that's true at all. They are just trying to shape the discourse of their sub by banning speech which they think is wrong or unhelpful? Are they right every time? I don't think they are.

See, here's the thing. Just like if you see some woman walking home by herself late at night, you keep clear of her because she doesn't know if you are someone with ill intent. Basically, you are Schrodinger's Rapist. And in the same vein, if all they know about you is that you are really really angry and you don't like feminists, maybe you are Schrodinger's Trump supporter. Why would they want to debate with that person or keep them in their living room?

I think checking your anger at the door should be a prerequisite for civil discourse, particularly if you disagree with someone over points.

Yes, and they are wrong for doing this. It's a simple matter of inequality. Pointing out inequality that disadvantages men SHOULDN'T mean you are participating in the oppression olympics and it's a bad faith response by them for assuming that that is your slant.

How in the fuck do we combat this?

Let's turn this sub into what you wanted that sub to be. Reddit by definition creates each subreddit as a tiny echo chamber, so groupthink as an outcome is almost a feature, not a bug.

Do we respond with violence in real life?

Why? I am boggled that you would think this is appropriate. I can't fathom how you would think this is a good response. Who is the target for your righteous anger? Who are you directing your vitriol towards?

Should we continue being on the left when huge portions of the left are like this?

YES. Let's keep quietly pushing the things that egalitarian feminism stands for. Keep things basic and be prepared to have basically the same conversation over and over again, as they are new ideas for the people you are talking to. They are opposed to inequality. It is inequality when men die younger. It is inequality when men are given longer prison sentences for the same crimes. It is inequality when men are graduating from university at lower rates. It is inequality that men cant access mental health services or make up a disproportionate amount of homeless people.

None of those things are trashing women or expressing anger at their privileges. Let's not play the oppression olympics. Let's just raise and agree with each other about the inequalities and injustices that all sorts of groups face, and how we can address them.

Let's make some allies.

I have seen similar agenda users worm their up to a mod position and then slowly catering the community to their liking, killing most of the fun in it. They infiltrate a community, then claim that they started that community, then dictate what the community is about, them dispel dissidents, then the removed go start up another forum which gains traction because the former one has succumb to community strangeling, then the cycle repeated as the shit mods that ruined the first space tries the same trick in the new. It's the circle of life.

There's a reason why /r/askwomen feels like a feminist book-club where those leading it gives out only certain books and only approve of certain views on those books. Not to mention control the discussion with an iron fist and see imagnery slights everywhere.

/r/askmen on the other feels like a bar where underage kids can come in and the bartender tries to funny, You see a ton of women on /r/askmen who say they can't stand /r/askwomen because even they get barred the moment they step half a toe out of line. Some of the rules on /r/AskWomen are also just asine, such as not to generalise groups, on a sub specifically created to ask such questions.

You can't combat it, to answer your question. Shit mods with an agenda and power-trips have existed as long as internet forums. Feminist online dictators is just one such kind that have risen to prominence. It is merely a matter of different things being allowed by them.

You shouldn't have been banned over this, even if the mods disagree with your opinion, it doesn't look like you were breaking any rules.

I will tell you that in my experiences with groups on Reddit and Facebook, I've had moderators go out of their way to be rude to me and even call me ugly names. Having a feminist viewpoint that you disagree with can justify their behavior in their minds. I've been called "a classical narcissist", and I've been accused of "sexualizing children", and I've also been told that I am owed no explanation, just like you. They seem to enjoy going out of their way to be hateful and rude.

I left an atheist group on Facebook because I was unhappy that someone was rudely dogpiled for criticising the group. I left a message to their moderators and I was greeted with hateful rhetoric and profanity. I doubt that they even possess the capacity for self-reflection.

I was banned from r/askreddit recently but so far they've been nice and I'm currently figuring out if it was legitimate or if it was because some feminist mod had an axe to grind.

Like you, I've been a member over there for a very long time.

So far I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. I was saying things and then posting sources to justify what I was saying, and I guess that sub doesn't operate that way.

They saw it as spamming whereas I saw it as sourcing my statements. I told them it wasn't intentional. I apologized for it. I said that I was on a bunch of debate subs recently, and that it was kind of a habit that I didn't realize I had. And they said after a week they'd review me or something.

So in a few days I get to message them and maybe get back in. Fingers crossed.

I was also banned from menslibs, by accident, which I say because I didn't even mean to post there (it was a post I made for r/mensrights). I was browsing both subs and hit the new post button on the wrong one. On r/MensRights it was promptly gilded and stickied. On r/menslibs it got me banned. Their official reason was that I was a mgtow poster, which I admit to having posted over there in the past, but I mostly just got into arguments with people over there more than anything else (mostly over politics -- being a liberal meant I disagreed with a lot of the conservative posters over there, but I also often disagreed with their characterization of women, which is something that should get me points with the menslibs mods more than anything else).

I might appeal my ban over there at some point, but it's not something I'm in a hurry to do.
