IT is a broad field. So, I'd suppose there are a lot of places where you don't have to go through a background check.

I’ve been working in IT for a few years now. On and off at different companies. I would say it depends on the employer. I once worked at a shop where we would repair devices that customers brought in, and one of my coworkers was an active felon, and the other claimed to have worked for private military but he seemed mentally ill at times. But, I don’t think we were actually registered as employees anyways, we got paid through zelle, which was obviously illegal but I was young and liked not paying taxes. If you’re looking for a more professional type of IT job, it might be tough, but I’m not 100% on that.

Every job I've had for the last 15 years at least has required a background check.

What they're looking for and what are disqualifying factors I couldn't begin to say.
