Western divorces are so gynocemtric, why is it that more women don't break this cycle and ditch the misandrist practices in these divorces ?

To the scared, angry women who lurk here, can I just gently but firmly remind you that male empowerment does not mean female disenfranchisement ? It’s not a zero-sum game. We can both succeed.

A reminder that men in America are 93 % of work place fatalities, start 81% of businesses, receive less college education but still make up 73 % in STEM fields. If they become millionaires half get taken to the cleaners by a wife. Don’t let feminists tell you that we live under the patriarchy.

My dad was an 'idiot' and was never really there growing up. He just built a life for me where I can live in a real castle. Now I get to shame him publicly.

Probably because there’s a payday at the end of that particular rainbow.

Reading what that poster wrote, she's very young so I get why she sees those traditions the way she does. She brought up a few examples, one of them being the changing of the woman's family name to the husband's family name. While I personally don't know the history of it, I feel I know enough to be able to make a guess. The vast majority of relationships are male led, the primary or sole earner in the family is almost always male and the further you go back, the more true this is throughout the entirety of human history. Regardless of what some groups or individuals would have you believe, women are the protected sex. Traditionally and biologically -Which many seem to ingore is what dictated/created/led to the now traditional standards we have for the sexes- it's been the role of men to protect their female partner.

A lot of women/feminists would scoff at me saying that.. But which one is it that goes downstairs with a baseball bat when the sound of smashing glass is heard at night? It's not her.. Which of the sexes do you see in the many video examples online risking their lives in a burning building, to create a human chain to rescue a woman in a flood? It's not her.. Which one is it that takes up the hard, back breaking work that comes with a high risk of injury or death to provide for the other + kids? It's not her.. Which one of us is more likely to stay to fight an invading country, to risk our lives, to give them or come home with PTSD? Not her...

The husbands name is the one that's used because he's always been the one with all the responsibility to provide and protect, he is the head of the family, of course, things are changing in extremely recent years. Same places and times have even had laws to punish the husband legally if he fails any of these obligations.

She mentioned that women have vows in weddings to "serve and obey" which I believe is wrong? The bride I thought said "to love, cherish, and obey". I don't know if she knows.. But traditionally the groom says "to love, cherish, and worship". A reminder of the definitions of worship that's relevent to the context;

Worship: to regard with great or extravagant respect, honor, or devotion

And all she has to do is listen to him? Sounds like she's got a pretty good deal to me. If he doesn't fulfil his many more obligations to her then she can divorce and leave.

Another point she said she found disturbing is the father giving away his daughter to the groom. Like everything I've said this isn't a rule for all, just generally speaking. A father daughter-relationship is different to a father-son relationship. Again it all comes from expected roles formed from our biology. Independance and strength both mentally and physically is something that's desireable in a man so the father will typically see the son as being able and more capable to defend himself and fight his own battles to a point, he'll ideally teach his son as much as he can and prepare him to take on that expected role in society and to provide for his future family.

Like I mentioned earlier, men are more bilogoically inclined to protect women and this extends to his daughter, I'm not a father and not a woman so I can't comment much on this, but from what I've seen of fathers and daughters, they're typically more openly proud of raising a daughter, more cautious of who she dates and where she is and the typical "Have her home by 10" because he feels a stronger responsibility for her safety, unfortunatly this can come with some freedoms being restricted/limited. During the wedding ceremony that responsibility to protect and provide for her is symbolically passed on and displayed by walking the bride/his daughter down the isle, letting go of her hand as it's taken by the groom. It's a proud moment for a father to see his daughter happy and with a good man, of course, he'll always be there for her... It's just a ceremony and it's sad to see so many women not understand it from the men's perspective. As I said, I'm no father so a father could comment on this better than I can, I'm just drawing from what I've seen with my own father and my sister and just in general.

It's all very traditional and I totally get why some women might not be comfortable with it, but the great thing about wedding ceremonies is that you can do or say whatever you want and agree to, the woman can dictate how things go and it's something that's seen as "her day" typically doing most of the planning and most wedding planners are women. Some women can't seem to accept that most women do want a man to provide for her, to vow to protect her and to generally lead the relationship. Both sexes have their obligations, pros and cons. It's unfair to see only one over the other.

Western divorces are so gynocemtric, why is it that more women don't break this cycle and ditch the misandrist practices in these divorces ?

Because men won't ever have anywhere near the sizable and powerful movement that is feminism to speak up against the sexist divorces practices that too often contribute to men's suicides or imprisonment.

Edit: Reading through that threads comments is pretty saddening seeing women call these traditions misogyny, there's nothing at all about these traditions that show a hatred toward woman.

She brought up a few examples, one of them being the changing of the woman's family name to the husband's family name. While I personally don't know the history of it, I feel I know enough to be able to make a guess.

Family names are a very recent invention. Some countries still don't have any, like Myanmar or Iceland. And in France, married women don't (cannot) change their legal name (basically nobody can)

The name being that of the husband is usually because, as the Romans said, the mother is always certain, but not the dad. Thus for a man to give his name was a way to show that he accepted responsibility over someone, being a child or a wife.

Thank you, I tried googling it after reading the post OP linked to but I guess the ways I worded it only yielded articles about how the practice is sexist and celebrating women refusing to use their husbands family name.

Glad to know I'm half right at least haha.

Would you give up a massive paycheck? No, and neither will they. The only way to stop this is for men to stop getting married until the divorce laws become truly equal.

Because it's only sexist if I don't like it, duh
