My kids have had a lot of questions about the relationship between my Ex and myself. Partly because things haven't been going my Ex's way. She thought using false narratives and getting a restraining order against me would make me a weekend Dad. Well family court in DC isn't having any of that.

Today my girls were talking about judges and telling me what I need to tell the judge. Then they asked me if I'd ever hit Mom or their step sister. And I said no. They then on to call me a liar and said that yes I did. They explained that is why Mom left and that is why their sister left.

I never hit my former step daughter. One time I was finishing these antique French doors. These are doors that were to the room she loved in. She wanted to paint all the original woodwork that is 120 years old white and I allowed her to even though it made my skin crawl. I asked she not paint the French doors. She then told me 'leave me alone and leave your white man tears for someone else. Don't fuck with me, I'm on my period." Mine you she is 24 at the time. The year is 2020. I then give myself a time out to cool off. When I come back, my step daughter is painting the French doors. I then grab the paint brush from her hand and try to get it from her. We pull back and forth on the paint brush. Then I let go. That's it! It's not my proudest moment. I wish I would of done better. At the same time I never hit my step daughter back in 2020. My Ex at the time even agreed I didn't hit her. Even though during the divorce she took this back. Now My Ex is telling my kids that I've hit her and the step daughter.

I'm doing my best to be the calm in the storm. I just listened. I apologize to them that very adult topics were discussed with them that shouldn't of been discussed with them. And maybe I said too much, but I did defend myself and said 'I didn't hit neither of them." Of course my 4yo and 6yo daughter called me a liar. I dropped topic and moved on.

I keep saying this is my worst fear. But I guess if my girls grow up to believe my Ex's lies. There is nothing I can do.

Was I wrong ? What should I do? How do I handle this? Though the conversation seemed like an hour, it was 10 mins ? Maybe I should get them with a child therapist? I'm just lost here.
