Women hate socially awkward and/or quiet males?

I saw this comment from a woman once:

"Awkward/shy is my biggest turn off in a guy. It might be because I work in an industry that requires me not to be awkward or shy, but I have no respect for those who are shy and awkward. I used to be that when I was younger and had low self-esteem, but grew out of it fast because I had teachers who wouldn't allow it. It doesn't matter how good looking a person is if he has no social skills."

It got me thinking, Do most women really hate shy/socially awkward people that much , to the point of having no respect for them as people? Is being shy really that much of a turnoff?

Are women really that stuck up?
