People say that that your net worth does not equate your worth as an individual, and I used to believe that, but as gotten older I am starting to doubt that.

When I first got my rolex (it was a gift), people at my job started looking at me differently and treating me better and with more respect. Word got around and a lot of people in other departments found out as well. Even my friends looked at me differently. The other day I was at the mall, and I was wearing nice dress clothes and some designer sunglasses. Without fail, the women at stores treated me way better and acted really shy around me. At the club, I’ve noticed that how you dress makes a night and day difference. If you’re wearing a suit and tie versus jeans and a t-shirt, it’s a night and day difference how they respond to you.

Obviously if you’re wear expensive clothes, it will attract attention. That’s a fact. However, I don’t want to base my self-esteem on my clothes or watches or material possessions because I know I’ll never be happy like that. On the other hand, people do judge and if you’re wearing expensive brands you will come off as higher status.

What is a good mentality on material possessions and self-esteem?
