Didn't get the chance to post yesterday cause I was way too tired, so here's a two for one.
Day 2:
Filled out the goals and actually found squeezing them into just three a little hard. I did some extra credit work for the fourth. I couldn't find the Stylelife hypnosis audio (if anyone has it HMU I'm a completionist) so I did a self-hypnosis technique for confidence that I learned from Ross Jeffries' first book instead. Now onto the field mission. Small talk with five more strangers, now with 100% more mandatory eye contact. Just so happened that I got free tickets to go to a concert with a family member around my age who was in town, which made this super easy. I made a point to be extra social. Asked for directions when we were a little lost (blueish green, then brown) then made some more small talk with two other peeps before the show started. It was a little hard to make out eye color inside, it was dark except for the colorful stage lights (one of them was confirmed brown). Joked around with an older couple about a guy who puked on his way to the bathroom, didn't catch their eye colors though. Between the openers in the smoking section I made sure to compliment one chick's plaid punk rock style shorts (blue) and asked another girl who I saw eating nachos if they had food inside (green). But between the second opener and the headliner the real highlight of the night was found. Took a hit off of this one couple's joint and we talked music (guy was blueish green, she was brown). The concert, otherwise, frankly was nothing to write home about. Not one of the best I've been to but it was enjoyable if tiring by the end.
Day 3:
I didn't shower, even though I wanted to, and then did all of the vocal exercises to the best of my ability. Couldn't get a friend on the phone for the Brainfart challenge but when they call me back inevitably I guess I'll do that one too. I got all the others done. It was really interesting to see how I thought I'd do vs. how I actually did when listening back on the first recordings. The one where you tell a story was particularly fun. I also found out that I might talk a lot faster than I thought I did, though talking alone is always a bit different to me than when I'm with other people, so it's hard to gauge. Ending statements with a tone of confidence was a really cool thing to consider. I will definitely be keeping these ideas in mind and I'm looking forward to practicing them.
And so now I have to find Mr. Moviefone. Seemed extraordinarily outdated, especially in the day of mass spam callers. I searched it up on seddit to see if anyone had modified it for modern day. Got the tip to call businesses. In league with the extraordinary outdated nature of this challenge I was also extraordinarily anxious. These people are going to think I'm a weirdo! But I signed up for this. I tried to put myself in that confident mindset, almost like it was a prank call (which I had seen someone else write about it on here). It's a challenge anyway after all. I don't have a phone book but I figured I might as well try dialing randomly a few times first. Nothing. Okay, time to take the tip and move on to businesses. It was nearing closing time for the stores that were still open, and not wanting to bother any restaurants (because lord knows they have enough on their plates already), I tried calling grocery stores, gas stations, and other establishments of that ilk. I re-learned that lots of chains have automated helpers when you first call so my prepared line of "Oh I guess I have the wrong number, but, got any movie recommendations? I'm looking for one right now." wasn't gonna work there. I stuck to places without robots.
The first girl who answered I stumbled over my words a little but tried to sound confident by the end of it, she actually seemed to find it funny but then took it seriously. "What kinda movie are we lookin' for?". I just gave her some favorite movies and general genres I liked but basically told her anything that's good. Got recc'd "Grown Ups". Hell yeah, we got one! The next guy who answered was actually really excited cause he had just seen a good one but couldn't remember the name. He said it was top 10 on Netflix and was called "something like face", then said he had to go but to watch it cause it was really good. I don't know what movie he was talking about but it's not stopping me from counting that as another one. Next call the guy was super confused and I'm not sure if he even spoke great english so I just said sorry wrong number and hung up. After that I called some liquor store and the guy was confused, then scoffed, and was like "Nah man I don't have one, bye". Kinda funny in retrospect but those two back to back definitely made me feel a little weird. I also knew I had to keep truckin'. Last guy was super confused at first as well so I repeated the question. I heard him checking someone out in the background, then in the most serious voice he said "Watch uhh, The Minions". I laughed and said "Minions?". "Yeah". I laughed even harder and said okay peace. I'm going to count that as 3.
What I've Learned:
There are more blue-eyed people than I expected! Nah I kid, sample size I know. Day 2 was a lot of the same as Day 1 but maybe a little more confidence. I wasn't alone so it's a little different than Day 1 but still took some guts and I had to make myself do it. Day 3 I learned that I could stand to get a little better at using my voice more effectively. I got looser as the exercises went on and found myself more comfortable with what I was doing. Now the Moviefone thing, that was new. It felt weird but was a little fun, especially those first two who were really into it. Those were actually pleasant, but short, conversations with random strangers over the phone. The one guy who seemed like he was trying to play it cool like "Nah" and hung up was actually the one who made the situation awkward. The other two flipped what was admittedly a weird and unusual thing into something fun and interesting. The Minions guy was a fun conversation for a completely different reason and it was hilarious even if he was annoyed and trying to troll me. I can't lie, I'm a little anxious about tomorrow. I have to fix the AC in my car before I can really go out and do intensive field stuff again, so I'll try and get that done before whatever it has me doing tomorrow if I can. I'm looking forward to it. Still anxious but I'm feeling the confidence build up.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
