Been talking to this girl for a few months on and off. She lives in another state than I do so it would be a flight. We spoke on Sunday to meet for 2 hrs on the phone for the May 20 weekend. A few days ago she calls me and tells me that she has this health condition that I should know about however it is benign and it didnt affect how I viewed her at all.
She then says that it’s inconvenient for her that weekend because she is traveling this weekend and after I leave on May 23 she’s traveling for a work conference a few days later.
I’m obviously annoyed because why did she even talk to me on Sunday planning this trip now.
She tells me she’s still interested in talking but I’m pretty turned off because she’s also not good at communication in general. Also says that if May 20 is the only weekend possible for us (we’re both doctors with busy schedules and hard hours but she’s done with training and has an easier schedule while I’m still in residency and have it much harder), then she’d wanna meet but yes it’s still an inconvenient weekend for her.
However, in this situation I learned that you should prioritize yourself and that people who care will make time to prioritize to get to know you. I’m going to tell her that I don’t plan to see her that weekend because I shouldnt spend time with someone that feels inconvenienced the next time I talk with her on the phone.
She doesn’t owe me anything as we are not dating however people make time for things that matter.
Just wanted to share that. I’ve been listening to the audiobook of No More Mr. Nice Guy and it’s been life changing for me as well and helped me process this situation.
