You know that as soon as he started she was thinking, "oh god, we're in a mall foot court. Is that fat guy emptying trash watching me? How embarrassing". There's nothing romantic about a mall food court and women are HUGE on perception/status. You're not going to do well making her feel bad with an embarrassing proposal setting.
