Heres the requirements for some context.
Time: 2-3 minutes Audience: Elementary, middle, or high school students. Make sure your language choices reflect your audience. It is imperative you imagine them, their age, their interests, their concerns, and their experiences as you write. Purpose: enlighten your audience by sharing insights from the life you’ve lived
Scenario – You have been asked by the guidance department to write a two to three minute speech for the Character Education program at school. You have decided to use a quote to help support your thinking/perspective
Task:
First, find four (4!) quotes, sayings or bits of advice that connect to one or more of the “character words” listed below. You will only need one, but have four good ones to choose from. Look up quotes online (Bartleby.come, quoteland.com0, write down inspirational song lyrics, think about advice that a parent or grandparent has said to you a hundred times. After this… Write a single sentence that encompasses the overall message you want these kids to leave with after hearing your speech. It should naturally be connected to one of your four quotes. This will eventually become your thesis. After this… Write your body paragraphs that support your thesis. One of your pieces of “evidence” in support of your thesis is one of the quotes you’ve chosen. After this… Write your intro and conclusion. After this… Read aloud and begin the process of editing for time, content and style. Remember your audience. They have high expectations for entertainment and low thresholds for being preached to. Make sure your written choices and delivery choices reflect that.
Id love to get some ideas and quotes to start off with, im not looking to piss off the whole school but i really want to make people think. Any ideas?
