So as the title says, I'm a single dad, 28 yo with two small kids. Without going into it me and my ex broke up, I've since started a completely new journey that may be of help for those in a similar situation, I know that I would appreciate it back then...
Broke up with my ex after a relationship of 3 years, the love was magic, I thought this was it and after only 5 months everything went downhill for various reasons but I stayed mainly because I didn't want my kids to grow up as I did. We broke up and didn't chase her, ignored completely and did my own thing, time went by and she was chasing me... Until she wasn't. It was then I started chasing her from my own neediness and boy did it go wrong... Every attempt from my side was rejected and I forgot about myself to the point of beciming a pathetic needy man.
So, distance came along and it became easier to let go and refocus. Started training and eating well, taking long showers and taking care of myself, being alone and fine with it. Soon after my body started shifting, weight I had struggled with that whole relationship just disappeared, same with health problems... I was finally ready to date again, for myself, showing my real persona and enjoying the company of women. Man was I nervous... My biggest fear was the fact that I had kids, that I was a dad... I'm 28 yo, good looking and I have interests, so the rest was fine, but among women in my own age I felt insecure about sharing that detail of myself.
I created a tinder profile, got some good photos with help from friends and wrote an inviting bio, but there it was again, should I write about my kids? Should I have a photo (not showing their faces) up there? Would they automatically reject me? All this fear grew like a bubble, until a friend popped it for me "dude, you are a dad now, that's your reality and if someone doesn't like it, it's fine". So I decided not to say anything on my profile, not out of fear but because I didn't want to share these things until I got to know these women.
I started flirting and inviting girls out, I just tell them to join me walking my dog so we can get to know each other. It works like a charm and since 2 weeks ago I've been on 5 dates. All of them ending at my place, because I chose to.
So, about the kids issue, I no longer sweat about it. On these dates I just focus on that moment when I'm with them, fully. I want to know about them and I want to laugh and have fun while giving them my full attention and curiosity, giving joy. We usually walk a bit and questions like what makes you tick or what do you want in the future pop up, its then I calmly answer that I want to be the best dad I can for my kids and learn as much as possible to share it with them. Theyve taking it well so far and if it doesn't match what they want, no problem, nice to meet you goodbye.
Hope it helps somebody out there, be strong!
