Hey there, I've been finding this concept a recurring issue for the past 15 years or so (and now in my 30s). How do you act more spontaneously, without overthinking? I'm having a great time right now at club Space, I mean holy shit, some top notch DJs for a Thursday night (Black Coffee, Seth Troxler & Gerd Janson). I'm thrilled to be here, with some absolutely amazing moments in music tonight to get lost to, yet just like usual, I do think I have a geniune feeling that makes me want to express something to others, but, it is inevitablely blocked out by me getting flustered, and wanting to eject.
I almost always feels like Peter from Family Guy, when he describes a rock band who had not figured out the perfect amount of eye contact with a band-mate that isn't considered weird (https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DXgdqbkNu7Mo). I do want to talk with the people (girls and guys) about how beautiful they or the environment is at the moment, but I get flustered with depressive thoughts about how it just...kinda doesn't really matter?
I am so concerned about not being awkward, that I end up working myself up. I'll occasionally exchange a glance with someone, break a smile, and we bond for some seconds, but I seem to get overly confused about my motives for anything that lasts longer than a minute.
Why am I so ashamed about saying something like, "oh wow you girls both have matching hats! I've never seen that before." It was really true, just that I think it's quite a weak topic to open with, and I barely understand why I am slightly inclined to want to say that (besides a couple drinks I've had and being told I need to meet women). Why can't I even legitimately compliment a girl without feeling overwhelmed by the idea of having an extended convo after? I just want to slunk out and say my piece, I hate this about myself and want to change it....
