honestly, if i was you, i would consider waiting until you are in a better place with your self-image. think of yourself as "going under renovations" and set goals for how you want to be. take time off from girls and get in great shape. read more books and become more interesting. these are substantial changes you can make that will BUILD, not break, your confidence... which is important for you right now. this is not to say that if the right girl comes along and you two hit it off, you shouldn't do everything in your power to make it happen with her. but, i am advising against just randomly approaching girls if you lack the confidence, because it will likely show, and only compound your problem.

it is easy for everyone to advise people to "stop caring" and to "not give a fuck" and so on, but a lot of the people saying that are not really thinking about your unique situation.

I'm 20 and in college and just got braces. I'm in 3rd year and so far it hasn't hurt my approaches. I rarely get #-closes but that has been consistent from before I got braces too.

Just keep the confidence up. Don't wait to approach, it's all about practice, practice, practice!

EDIT: avonv has the right idea if you aren't as ready to go as I am, use the time to make goals and accomplish them.
