Goal was to get rejected. Not to get rejected just on the approach, but to mischievously burn otherwise good interactions down by escalating or saying brazen things, etc. Did not succeed in doing so. But there was progress in another area.
Started the night off with just me and my natural buddy. I opened the first set, 2 Aznz, with a comment on one of their hats. Set opened right up. Did a little bit of kino with girl I spoke with, teased a lot. We had group chatter as well between the 4 of us. Set hooked, but didn’t have attraction. Buddy got the number of the girl he spent the most time talking to, then we ejected.
Talked to some dudes, got dismissed by one or two sets. Reengaged Aznz a bit at the bar, let them go.
Got dismissed again once or twice.
[order of events becomes questionable from here until final two set]
Opened a two set. Had good rapport and initial interest from them, but I did not fight against my feelings of not wanting to lose it. Sad! It ended in a “nice to meet you” when they finished their drinks. I knew that was coming, I could see one of them looking at her drink as it dwindled. I should have preempted it and told them to come with me to the bar. Kicked myself a bit for it.
At some point around here, we had a third and final interaction with the Aznz. Continued mild kino and attempts to engage the chick in a deeper convo, but it just didn’t take.
Went to the bathroom. Girls went into the boys bathroom for reasons that remain unclear. One of them got thrown out of the venue.
Opened a big group. Didn’t get immediately dismissed, but couldn’t carry it either.
Maybe more dismissal, I don’t know really.
Opened the final two set with a Todd-inspired line about gracing them with my presence. They opened right up. I avenged my earlier failure by leading them to the bar when they mentioned their drinks. Kenno showed up when I was at the bar with them, but we would not be reunited until later.
They followed me around for a bit, and then we settled on the back patio (which is where most of the game happens in this particular venue). I told them let’s be Westside friends, since they had only moved here recently and they seemed naive (turns out the less attractive one is just on some prolonged road trip). Got their numbers, in communication inviting them to weekday activities. We’ll see how this social circle play pans out.
But so anyways, they were in contact with a promoter at a recent club nearby, so I rolled over there with them. Mistake! The venue we were at is notorious for its line (which has its own Yelp review), so I knew it was a gamble to leave. I just figured it was more fun to change venues with them than stick around, and I had never been to the club they were going to so I was curious. But the promoter wanted me to pay $40. Totally outrageous for that club. Maybe I should have tried to talk him down for the practice, but my real max price I would have paid was $5 lol, so the negotiations would have brief and fruitless regardless. See, this is one of the things that actually happen when you pull stupid Donald Trump Art of the Deal shit and make an outrageous initial offer; unless the other party NEEDS to make a deal, they’re going to peace out.
So now I am cut asunder from buddies at the initial venue. I try a nearby bar I had heard of; lame (maybe good for a date though). I try to go to another nearby popping spot, but there’s a line, so I duck into a divish bar next to it. It’s ok, but some crowded sweatfest. I get some water.
I open a two set on the street on the way back to scoop my buddies and chat with them briefly. This is actually a bigger milestone than I thought until I wrote this sentence; I’ve never opened on the street like this before. Cool. They are at their friend’s bday party at the (Star Wars themed ugh) bar we are outside of. They invite me in. It’s a trap! Super lame in there. I can see why they invited me in after like 4 minutes of unexceptional conversation. One of them sits down with the friends, the cuter one goes to the bathroom. After talking to the friends a bit, I just grab some water and peace out. I’ll take the W from the invite and the L from ducking out, it wasn’t worth the trouble.
What was good from last night was not only that I achieved a short-term goal of mine, which was to move a set in the venue, but also that I did not let my initial failure to do so ultimately stop me.
What I want to do better is do more to lose sets. I can sometimes push the ante verbally, but I want to be able to do more consistently. I also need to more consistently have a masculine energy. It was up and down until I maintained it at the end. I want to write a whole post about my musings on this topic--perhaps tomorrow, for now I must venture out again.
there doesn't seem to be anything here
