Always find things to say or ask about her.

Questions are the easiest ice breakers imo.

Wardrobe, hairstyle, etc... are things you can comment on or ask about that are usually within a woman/girl's interests. Just a safe bet for striking up a conversation.

"Hey nice hat, where'd you get it?"

"Hi, I dig those shoes"

"Is that the new i-phone"

Cheezy I know, but an ice breaker is just to get you started. If she seems interested it might be a good idea to work the comment into a compliment... "Nice hat, the color goes with your eyes".

But don't go too far. Whether a compliment like that is in order or not, you'll have to base on the vibe you're getting up to that point.

Don't talk about yourself unless you're answering a direct question, or simply showing agreement or that the two of you share a parallel, have something in common. If it goes well, there will be plenty of time to tell her about you at a later date. Even better if she's asking.

Once the ice is broken, you concentrate on what she's saying and respond. If things go quiet or awkward roll into current events. Stay away from depressing news and the like. Maybe ask if she's seen a film that is currently in the theatre or inquire about outdoor activities that are common to your area.

Around here... people go to the beach, surf etc... So In the summer I'd ask if she'd been to the beach lately, in the winter it would be more about not being able to wait for summer to finally get here.

Ask about the quality of a local restaurant you've been meaning to try... "Have you eaten at 'suchnsuch' down the block? I've heard it's really good".

The idea here is to talk about things that people do... and might do on a date. Get it?

Small talk that is not so small. ;) Use the conversation, slowly but deliberately to work your way towards being able to first gauge her interest and then if the interest is there, ask her out.

Above all else, be confident. Treat her with respect.
