This just happened last night, and I am pretty proud of myself for it.

I recently just got out of a year and a half relationship with a girl I met in high school. Now in college and having had no experience actually picking up a girl before or even properly getting a girls number before, ive been pretty nervous on my abilities. The first couple girls I tried flirting with didnt go really well and that hurt my confidence pretty bad. Yesterday a bunch of my friends and I were hanging out, one on my friends invited her old high school friend (the HB of the story) to a party (more like a gathering) at me and my roommates place. My room mate calls dibs on chick. So I out of respect of the call, backed off for the first part of the night. I had a couple of good conversations with her but for the most party let my roommate try his thing. He is more of a one night stand guy, kinda asshole-ish some times; and I am more of the nice guy, which hasn't really work for me too much. My roommate didnt really seem to be getting anywhere with her.

Later that night, I was sitting on the other side of the room talking to some of my other friends and she (the HB) comes up, sitting next to me and joins the conversation. We hit it off pretty well, my friends being the awesome friends they are subtly talked me up. I mention she should come over more often, and she said should would love to and asked me if I would like her number so I could invite her. I give her my phone to type her number in and while she is putting her number in, my friend and I make eye contact. Hes giving me a mental fist bump, I had to use all the self control I muster to keep myself from grinning like an idiot. She left shortly after and I was so focused on trying to maintain composure that I forgot to text her so she had my number. So I did that this morning, and we had a good, short text conversation. Im just pretty proud of myself for being good enough at interacting with this girl that, I not only got her number despite giving roommate the multiple opportunities. But the fact I made such an impression one her that she give me her number, without me asking. I guess nice guys do win sometimes.
