So last night I was out with some friends of mine, one of whom I'm currently pursuing. We're standing at this packed bar where people are dancing. The girls are kind of enjoying it but me and the other guys are about ready to head somewhere else. Anyways, in the middle of us all kind of hanging around in a circle, this guy comes up and starts trying to make a move on the girl I'm into. She flashes me a look really quick like "Oh no, I don't wanna deal with this guy who I can only assume is a douche..." Even with this look, I wasn't sure how I should react. I wanted to show my confidence and kind of take control and tell the guy off, but at the same time, didn't know if it would be out of line (i.e. "You're not my boyfriend, you can't dictate who talks to me").
I let it go on for almost a minute while I'm kind of internally raging. I decide to make my move, so I pull the girl closer to me and put my arm around her waist. I then reach out, shake the guy's hand and say "Go tell your friends I said 'hi'." In that moment, I felt like I could have done anything. As small and simple as it was, it was kind of a big move for me. One of my issues is my confidence with girls, and especially given the context of where I'm at with this girl in particular, I'm happy to say I did something to show I can take control. When the guy walked away, we all laughed at the situation, and I think my friends, including the girl, were kind of impressed and entertained by my reaction. While delayed, it seemed fairly well timed and executed.
Now for the part that sucks. Earlier in the night one of the other girls told me that my crush kind of figured out how I feel and is open to going out with me - but not so much right now. Apparently the sentiment is that she WOULD say yes right now, but she feels like she'd be more receptive in the near future. She's got some personal issues going on, and her dating life is kind of all over the place. She feels like I'm worth it, but because of that she doesn't want to do it until it feels right, because she's worried she's in a place where she could hurt me. Now, normally if a girl told me this straight up, I would take it as her trying to let me down easily. But given the fact that she discussed it with another friend (it came up when these two girls were pre-gaming the night out before we met up), she had no reason to be anything but honest with her. It's partially good news considering I had no gauge of her interest before, but it leaves me where I already am - waiting around. I know I need to make a real move, and I was planning on it last night, but after I was told all of this, my friends said I should take it easy for the night and hold off for now. Is this some kind of shit test where she really just wants me to make a move sooner? Again, the fact that this conversation didn't even involve me, and that I was just given the heads-up afterwards makes me think otherwise.
Make the move ASAP, or wait a few weeks to a month as suggested?
