So I need advice on improving my verbal intelligence and coming up with comebacks

Practice.

Understand social interactions

Learn from other witty people.

Think through conversations in detail later and work out your comebacks and strategy. Next time when the same thing happens you're ready for it.

I am natural when it comes to that. I am well read . So knowledge is key. Also I hang with people that would roast me till I was done! So I learned the hard way !

personally wouldn’t bother if i didn’t want to. rather be the chill guy that doesn’t come off as childish. you need to be secure to pull it off without seeming like you’re weak though. if you are, it’s low effort and low risk.

I always thought agree and amplify was excellent if you sucked at comebacks

It's just about wit. Work with language often, read/write, that kind of shit. You also need to be fairly intelligent to be able to come up with that shit live, otherwise it just comes off as prefabricated.

But it's not the only way of responding. I mean half the time I don't even bother and just laugh it off in face of how little I think about the people that try this.
