Don't use pickup lines except as a joke. I don't ever use them.

A better way to open is by using some sort of situational tease, which really isn't too different from a pickup line, but since it's relevant to the situation and more nonchalant, there's a much better chance of it working out for you.

When you say any sort of line, you usually want to smile while you say it, unless it's something where you're keeping a straight face as part of the joke. Either way is fine, depending on how you want to follow up on it. Don't laugh at your own jokes unless they're legitimately good jokes and you can't help it.

Me, being less than gifted with humour (or the kind that women like anyway), I laugh at it right away just in case she doesn't get it was supposed to be a joke. If they laugh along they're into me.
