Hey guys I made another 5 approaches tonight while doing some indoor roller blading and got a few short conversations. The main breakthrough for me though is that I now have the situational confidence at that venue to approach a girl I find attractive and start up a conversation with her.

My first "approach" was while I was getting soda at the snack bar. After I said "Hi I'd like a Dr. Pepper" to the cute cashier girl I just went into something along the lines "This is my favorite place to go roller blading. It's the best! I went to roller world once and it wasn't half as good as this place. I love the lights, the music, its such a great place to go roller blading!" She responded positively and said something like "Yeah and you know why? Because we're the bomb!" I smiled and said "Yeah" enthusiastically and then thanked her for my drink and went on my way since there were other people behind me in line.

Next I noticed a guy wearing roller blades with lights on them, which I thought were cool. I'm not into guys but I take every opportunity I get to practice socializing and I thought something like "If thats not flashy enough for a situational opener, I don't know what is!" He was sitting alone on a bench so I went over to him and his eyes were closed and he looked tired but I said "Hey, I like your roller blades!" He didn't hear me the first time so I leaned in (bad body language) and repeated myself. He said thanks or something and then I asked "Where did you get them?" He told me where he got the lights and how much they cost (5 dollars) and then I said "I love roller blading here, I come here twice a month, its the best!" His response was just "cool" or something so I didn't know where to carry the conversation after that so I said "All right well nice talking to you!" gave a smile and ejected back to the roller blading floor.

Next while roller blading I started up a conversation with a girl with "Hey there are you having a good time tonight?" She said yeah and I said something along the lines of "I love roller blading here, its the best! I went to roller world once and it wasn't half as good as this place. I come here like twice a month!" She said she only comes here like once a year and I was just like "Oh" and drifted off since I didn't know where to carry it after that. I was going to try to continue it with "So when did you first learn how to roller blade?" But I wanted to say something to get her laughing before I started to try to build rapport.

After a bit I started up a conversation with one of the staff who was roller blading. I used the same opener on him: "Hey there are you having a good time tonight?" He said he was kind of busy and I got the feeling that he didn't want to talk but I was just like fuck it I went into the same couple sentences that I did with the other people, gave a smile, and then drifted off after he didn't respond with anything.

There was also another cute girl that I did the same opener with and couple sentences follow up. She said she lived like an hour away and doesn't come here as often. I responded saying "yeah I live like 50 minutes away in Waltham so whenever I come here I skate for like 8 hours straight!" (I was exaggerating). Anyway it seemed to die shortly after that. Like 20 minutes later I approached her again on the roller blading floor and I wanted to get her to laugh so I said "I don't know if you realize this but you sort of look like a penguin when you're roller blading!" I had a huge smile on my face when I said that but she didn't respond at all. I was completely convinced that she was going to laugh that I didn't know what to do when my joke fell flat so I just drifted off. In retrospect I think I should have joked about my appearance instead or followed up with something like "Hey it was a compliment. Penguins are cool! Gosh you are a tough crowd!"

One other brief interaction I had was that while I was sitting down, a girl from a mixed set of people said "Hi" to me. I wasn't expecting it so I just said "Hi" back. I think next time that happens I'll respond with "Hi, do I know you?" (no) "Well lets change that! My name is social_newbie!"

Anyway I was sweating like crazy by the end from having a really great night and didn't give a fuck and I'll do it all again next time I go roller blading!
