About a month ago I go to eat dinner solo at a restaurant in my small town. I don't recognize the hostess when she tells me that they're about to close and not seating any more tables, we make good eye contact and smiles and go about our business
A couple weeks later she shows up at a party with her sister. I wasn't sure that it was her out of the corner of my eye, but eventually she and her sister introduce themselves to me, asking clearly if the friend I was with was my girlfriend. "So youre not together, then?" We make small talk and hang out in the party. She might have seen me making out with the same friend on the dance floor. Anyway, I go out for a smoke and end up with the sisters outside. After some small talk, the sister that I'm not interested in (call her No) asks for my number, and the other one (call her Yes) follows suit. This is where I started to fall apart.
I put my number in No's phone while I hand my phone to Yes to put her number in. And I completely shut down on No, focusing all my attention on Yes. I feel like I was too excited and let it get the best of me while I should have treated them both like any other new friends, equally. We all say we should hang out and they take off. I text Yes: "I remember now: youre the cute hostess at the restaurant I couldnt ask out because she was working" (we were mutually wondering how we recognized each other)
The next day I text Yes again, telling her it was good tomeet her and her sister, we should hang out. No never called me with her number. Nothing... A couple days later I text her something innane, she replies "ive been busy, so ive been exhausted and a flake" and I say dont worry about it and continue innane conversation. Ending with telling her we should go out this week. No reply
About 5 days later I am at the bar and I see No. I reintroduce myself, it was nice tro meet you etc etc. A bit later I find her again and say "hey youre leaving, im going back inside, but I do think we should all hang out." "Yeah!" "Well I gave you my number but you never called to give me yours" "Oh yeah Ill call you" I should have said "sounds good" for a number of reasons: maybe she was politely blowing me off and I should have recognized, maybe she was deferring to her Yes sister. But instead I forced her to give me her number: "Well so are you going to call me or what?" "Yeah I guess so" and she did. Then her friends walked up and closed me out. I said something to close, she didnt even look over, felt dumb and walked away
And when I walked away I felt really stupid for 'forcing' her to give me her number. Because I mostly asked because I'm interested in her sister, who is flaking. (I would also legitimately like to hang out with the both of them, cool people are hard to come by in a small town).
So i end up feeling very desperate. Girl seems interested, but flakes out. I indirectly try to get to her through her sister. I hate flakes, but mostly I would rather have people tell me that they are not interested in meeting up, in a romantic way or not.
