So I went to a bar tonight and its the first time ive gone with the intention of facing my apporach anxiety. being a Tuesday evening the bar was not terribly busy (3 guys sitting at the bar, a handful of small groups scattered throughout and a birthday party of about 10 people).

I sat at the bar and made small talk with the other guys sitting at the bar while I downed a couple pints trying to muster up the courage to appraoach anyone.

After the second pint was finished I found my legs on the move towards the birthday group (I had already been in the bar for close to an hour at this point and had a pretty good indication as to who the birthday girl was (HB6 with 2x HB 7.5 for freinds)). I took a seat right across from the birthday girl and started with "so, you guys seem like the fun group here tonight" I then proceeded to introduce myeslf and made some small talk about how she knew the people in the group she was with, what schoools they went to and what they were majoring in. The birthday girl then pointed out that she was dating the guy next to her.... she also made this fact apparent to her friends and they were surprised to hear about the "new" relationship which made it obvious that she wanted me think she had a boyfriend when she didnt.

The conversation lasted about 3 minutes and it seemed to dry up at that point, I couldnt think of anything else to talk about as the group seemed disinterested and didnt really giving me anything to go off of. I then returned to the bar.

10 minutes later I ran into the birthday girl while I went to the washroom and I smiled and said "hi" as we passed, she then touched my shoulder and said hey...... after the washroom I returned to the bar, finished my drink, and left.

Where did I go wrong?

Did I do anything right?
