Disclaimer: I'm in high school. Take that fact as you will. I'm aware of the existence of /r/highseddit, but I really don't like that place for advice overall.

I'm referring to the girl as Mary.

I was in a class last year with Mary, and got a little bit of a sense of flirtation from her. We added each other on Facebook, talked about school stuff and even memes (common interest). After the year ended I contacted her via Facebook a couple times during the summer to catch up. We lost contact when we didn't have any classes together.

I reinitiated communication back in January, when midterms were coming up. With prom approaching too, I was becoming increasingly worried about not having a date. Early on I got her talking about prom, and she cryptically says to me that her parents don't mind her dating non-Asian guys. (She's Asian, I'm white.) Later on that month, after being frustrated with some of her cryptic nature regarding prom, asked who she was going to prom with. Mary told me it was a guy I was friends with, Steve for our purposes, who happens to be white. I'm devastated, but after some chatting, she reveals that they're not dating, and Mary isn't that into Steve anyway.

I eventually don't have a date for prom, and she visibly feels bad for me, but doesn't speak much of the subject. Before prom, I ask what she's doing afterwards, and reveals she's going out with a few of her (female) friends, and jokes that I could be the awkward white guy with all of them. I don't really know how to interpret this, and kinda brush it off.

After prom is over, I ask how it is, she reveals how awkward her date was, but that it was fun. I mention senior prom next year, and say if she plans on asking him again. Mary says no, and, "we should totally go together", followed by an "lol jk". She then says she's probably going with an out of town, Asian friend. I say, "you definitely only told me that to keep creeps like me away" and she jokingly agrees.

Is there anything left to our relationship? Keep in mind that all our communications this year have been via Facebook, and I'd really like to change that. Even after revealing her future prom intentions, she seemed intent in sticking "<3"s after I'd say something. I have no idea how to read this anymore, and think at this point I might just have oneitis. What do you all think?

TL;DR Girl I met in class that turned into a Facebook-only communications relationship appears to hit on me, goes to prom with other guy, reveals she doesn't like said guy much and jokes we should go together next year, then says she wants to go with an out-of-town friend I don't know.
