An intro is always great. I got asked out by this guy all the time in college but he never once introduced himself. It pretty much tells a girl your so interested in getting into her pants that you have no interest in actually letting her know you when you fail to do the basics.

As a girl who gets approached pretty frequently, the ones that work are usually questions that are open ended and about something you could possibly be interested in. "what are you drinking?" is going to get you a one word answer and then you're back to square one. Try "who do you know here?" And then try to find interests based on the person she knows. I tend to like intros midway through a conversation, actually.
