Long time lurker first time poster.

A little background on myself; I recently came out of a long-term relationship (5+ years). So needless to say, my game is super rusty. I've been reading FRs and informative posts on seddit for a few months now and figured I would contribute through the submission of my (hopeful) transition into a successful hunter. I am a good looking man with a successful career and a decent amount of confidence but am severely lacking experience with women having lived under a rock for half a decade. So without further ado...

Setting: 5PM Gas station

I pull up into the gas station noticing only a single vehicle in the lot, with a HB7 paying for something within the store. I figured I may as well knock some of the rust off so I park directly next to her and go about filling up my car. She was driving a newer model sporty car so one thing I knew up front was she cared about her vehicle. The car I drive along with hers are not your common Honda's or get around town vehicles, they are for people who enjoy driving and driving fast. I thought to myself, "Here's your hook, open up about her vehicle" since people who buy cars such as hers LOVE to talk about them. Just as that thought finished she came walking out of the store.

The Interaction

ME: What kind of car is that? (Already knowing the answer)
HER: It's a blah blah
ME: I like it, how does it drive?
HER: What? (A loud truck was driving past just I asked her the previous question)
ME: (In a louder voice) How does it drive?
HER: It's really fun.
ME: I like it a lot.
HER: (In a really girly tone) Thaaanks.

During this interaction I maintained eye contact and her body language seemed good. She was looking me in the eyes the entire time and smiled as we conversed. Upon her last response I just shut down and once my gas was finished pumping said "Have a nice day" before getting into my car to which she replied in almost a confused tone "You to?". I should also mention that we maintained eye contact throughout the silence (awkward).

Review

As I see it I had two opportunities to escalate the conversation to some sort of close. She was obviously into me and the tonality of her goodbye made that even more apparent. First, when she said what after the loud vehicle drove by I could have escalated by using that as an opportunity to move in closer without shouting. Second, after the "Thaaanks" I could have simply walked up with a "My names MR_SMIRK, what's your name?" and proceeded from there.

Any other insight would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to posting more in the future. I've got a night out with friends next weekend in a hotter part of town and am excited about posting a follow-up then.
