Where I'm from I wouldn't fight even though I'm pretty big. Even if you 'win' you could get charged with assault, beaten up by bouncers for the sake of it, banned from a club, or you might get glassed by someone. Why risk any of that just to be the tough guy?

Fighting is a waste of time. The only situation where fighting is acceptable is if you're cornered, and your aggressor says "I don't want your money or fancy phone, only your life". Otherwise, it's just a stupid dick measuring contest. Not worth your health. Heroes die first.

I don't see why any of these would require you to engage in verbal wit or get into a fight.

In my experience it has been the right thing to just ignore him/them. There usually is no point in talking back and starting a fight does not really solve anything. As long as noone is physically attacking you or your girl I see no reason to do anything at all. Other than maybe your pride noone will be harmed. As for what the girl thinks .. if she thinks bad of you just because you did not engage in a pointless battle you might want to reconsider .. well that's my opinion at least.
