So this all happened one week ago. Late getting to it because I'm a lazy chum.
This is Saturday night, back from a week-long trip to Florida. This night involved 4 different bars, and mainly two different girls. Along with two female and one male friends we went out to a normal sports bar. It's a nice place that gets very crowded, but not too loud.
We talk for a few minutes, I start drinking, my male friend asks me in a sarcastic tone "So FutureFlyDoc, you gonna leave us to talk to all of these ladies?" I respond with a simple "Yep!"
Don't be bothered by your friends giving you crap about this stuff. Don't leave them hanging when they want to be with you, but in this situation we had spent a lot of the day together and I told him that I was going to be talking to girls tonight. I gave him the option to come and I would help him get over his own AA. He wasn't interested, and that's his choice. I got a bit of drink in me, and headed on my way.
(I should point out that my two female friends get a kick out of seeing me do this stuff. They have known me for many years and knew me when I would sweat through my shirt at the thought of speaking to a woman :) )
Bar 1
My opening set was a triple HB 7. I actually didn't spot them until I was almost past them, so after I stopped where I was, and did a big jump backwards to land right beside one of them. (I'm lucky I didn't run into someone lol) It startled her and she just gave me a, "Well hey there" I just said Hi as if I hadn't just bunny hopped into her personal space. I held my hand out to shake hers and kept my focus on her. The other two were talking and on the other side of the table, so I just kept my focus on the girl I was with. We got through some pleasantries, and I didn't take my hand off of hers. So after about a minute of small talk and continual hand shaking she said, "You really like to shake hands."
"Oh yeah. I get tons of practice. Especially with this hand" I couldn't resist. Remember you are here to have fun! Don't take this stuff so seriously. And of course since I was having fun and a laugh, she burst out laughing as well.
It was at this point I realized I wasn't ready to settle yet and wasn't into her, so I said goodbye.
Next set was an HB8/HB9 along with a guy. I have been pushing myself more and more to approach groups that have a guy. Mostly because they make me the most nervous. I kind of let myself down and went for the HB8 since she was standing farthest from the guy and my brain figured then that the HB9 was dating him. But in hindsight since they weren't really close/holding/kissing I should have just assumed he is a friend or brother.
Anyways I get to the HB8 and say hello. She is immediately giving me cold shoulder and just not having it. So I kind of maneuver myself to get the attention of all three of them. We start chatting and I find that the guy actually had just come up to talk to the HB9. So I go back to trying to get to know the HB8. But she is just giving small answers, and no positive signs. So I leave and head back to my friends.
Bar 2 and 3
We then go to a second bar that is more of a dancing place. I got a massive headache around here and stayed back a bit. Recovered with lots and lots of aspirin, then we continue on to bar #3. Much smaller than the first place.
Ok now here is where I do something that you should never do. There is an HB7 and an HB8 together in the corner. I go up and say Hi and the HB8 is immediately very happy and responsive. I come to find that they were here to meet a girlfriend theres, but she was running late. So I am talking to the HB8 and trying to pull the HB7 in, but she was having none of it. She had turned her body away from me and the HB8, had her arms folded, and at one point she even gave a big huff of annoyance.
I don't let it affect me. I like the girl I am talking to, and we had a bit in common since we both had been in a class with this wacky professor last semester. I go and buy her a drink, and to try and help out the HB7 I go ahead and buy her a beer without her asking. I bring back the drinks and hand it to the HB8 and slide the beer over to the upset HB7. Now maybe this specific brand of beer was invovled in some kind of childhood trauma for this girl, but once she saw that I had brought her a beer she kind of yelled at me, "Just get the hell out of here asshole, no one asked you to come over here." And continued to stare into the distance not facing us.
Talk about awkward situation. I had never really been in something like this. But the HB8 I was talking to rolled her eyes and said, "just ignore her" so I did. We kept talking and I stopped trying to involve Hb7-scour-face and have a good time. A little bit later a group of girls show that HB8 knows and things get a bit hectic. I kind of lay back, and after a minute or two HB8 returns and tells me she and her friends are going to a birthday party. I don't really want to go to that kind of event, so I ask for her number and head back to my friends.
Here's where the good part happened: I am walking back to my friends, and I see HB8 going out the door with all the friends of hers that showed up. Suddenly the sour-puce HB7 comes up behind me. I don't remember exactly what she said word for word, but it was something like: "Hey you're an asshole you know that? You're such a creep. Stop hitting on girls you have no chance with. I should tell my brother about you and he's a cop."
Now gentlemen (and ladies), when you do this kind of thing people will judge you. They will make assumptions about you, be jealous of you, mock you, make fun of you, and possibly threaten you. It's important to keep a cool head, never let a situation get out of control, and never let your own emotions get out of control. BUT sometimes people need to be taken down a notch when they are out of line.
So as this girls is kind of screaming at me I raise up my hand and am like "Woah woah woah". She finally stops talking and just looks at me and I give her a simple, "That'll do pig" and walk away. Head over to my friends, and see her walk out the door. We get up to head to bar #4
Bar 4
At this bar it is now about 12:30-1:00 am. (We started early) and my friends are getting pretty drunk. We actualy head to this bar because at bar #3 a guy was chatting up on of my girl friends and convinced her to go with him to meet his friends. So now we are here and theres about 3 guys and 3 girls there. They are all at some tables and I figure this is a moment to make a good first impression. In a situation like this it is real easy to sit back and kind of stand around while making weird presentations.
But I just went up and sat next to a guy and a girl and introduced myself. They are friendly and we start the usual chatting. The guy eventually gets up to talk to a friend and an HB8 takes his place. We chat and hit it up very well.
After some time the tables are getting more crowded as more people want to sit down. At one point a girl comes over that wants to sit next to the girl I am sitting next to. So I give up my seat and now I have no where to sit. So I go over to the HB8 and push in to sit by her. She gets a kick out of it and I end up sitting on her lap. (hooray for kino that you don't have to work at!)
This gets us talking me, and at one point I tell her to switch so she is on my lap and she gives a happy "Sure!".
Now in my last FR I got quite a few messages about what I talk about when I am with someone. I leave that kind of stuff out and am pretty vague for multiple reasons. But mainly because it doesn't matter what I say so much as how I am saying it and what topics I am in.
For example I like talking about what a persons goals are in terms of careers and dreams. I like to get into hypothetical situations. One of my go-to's is: "If you had to murder someone with hugs and kisses, who would it be and why?" "Who is the most famous person you have ever touched the genitals of?" or just anything silly.
I also just keep a happy attitude. Never get serious, broching, mortal, nostalgic, or none of that. This is not the time or place. Have fun conversations. Talk about things that make you happy or laugh. It will become infectious to people around you!
After some more time the HB8 on my lap (We'll call her Tay from now on) says she wants to go out and smoke. I tell her I will as well. We go outside and she is pulling out a pack of cigarettes and asks what kind of smoke. I tell her I don't smoke and she laughs and asks why I came out here. Without saying anything I go in for the kiss. Definitely my favorite setup for a kiss to date. Even though it was kind of fast and she dropped her cigarettee, she laughed and went along with it.
So we made out on the sidewalk a bit. Then she stopped me and told me she actually wanted a cigarette. So we continued chatting. I wasn't exactly in the mood to bring her home (sometimes you just don't feel up to sex, you know what I mean). So I had her put her number in my phone and told her that I would take her out to her favorite place to eat on tuesday. She told me she had to work tuesday and I was like "well then wednesday or thursday! This is happening" She giggled and said okay. By now my friends had already left and I headed home as well.
Analysis Time
Ok so some notes on the night. My first approach was good. It got me out of my nerves really quick. I felt good. I also made the decision that the girl I was talking to was not really in my interest. Instead of just going with hit because she was interested and it was easy, I broke away from an easy thing to go elsewhere.
The next set I also think I handled well. I am glad I approached a set that had a guy in it. And I'm glad I was able to clearly note that I was not making any kind of progress. You are gonna have about a 30% hit rate in this, no matter what.
At the 2nd bar that was the dancing bar I wish I hadn't felt so sick. I really need to work on my dance scene. I always fumble since it's hard to hear and I have trouble making connections without conversation. Working on sets at that bar would really help me with non-verbal communication.
Now the incident with the girl that hated me. You should never insult someone for many reasons. 1) It's not cool. 2) It decreases your perceived value. 3) If it's a girl you insult, you likely have no chance with any of her friends. 4) I see too many guys that actually get upset when a woman rejects them. This was obviously not the case with this girl, but all too often guys feel like they are owed something from the women they speak to. 5) You will always come across "that friend" that tries to keep you at bay or away, or just hates you. If you can figure out how to deal with that girl, you will smoothly sail.
But in this situation I felt kind of okay about it. Her friend that I was actually speaking to was also annoyed by her behavior. I did my best to include her. And then she came up and actually kind of threatened me with that line about her cop/brother. You can only take so much, but remember it's always better to stay classy.
And lastly on Tay, I did take her out on wednesday. It was a great time. And did end in that f-close that I mentioned in the title :)
I did leave out a few sets that just didn't work. But I will mention them now. I have never had a night where more than 50% of the girls I approached were overly interested. At the first bar there was a third set I approached, but it was really loud and I kind of flubbered out a bunch of words. The girls were more interested in some conversation they had been having. Bad timing on my part. At bar #3 before I approached the two girls in the corner I stopped to say hello to a girl sitting at the bar alone. Turned out the bartender was her boyfriend. WOOPS! But hey, no harm no foul, and I'm sure the boyfriend was kind of happy to see his gf getting hit on. And at bar #4 before Tay came to sit at my table I tried to chat it up with the girl I was sitting next to, but she was just very cold and kind of annoyed the shit out of me.
But all in all it was a good week!
