I've been away for a month or two, but in that time gained a heap of sexual confidence/self-confidence, and so I was keen to hit the bars and see what I could do with that.
Went out last night with my regular wingman - approached a group for the first time, and spent about half an hour chatting with them (three girls and a guy) - I had them all laughing a few times, but the girl I was initially interested in turned really bitchy really quickly, and the girl I was then interested in was giving me good signals but I had no idea how to rearrange myself.
Went upstairs to the smoking area and found a girl sitting by herself - sat down and started chatting, had her number less than five minutes later. At this stage in my PU escapades, I'm just keen to be talking to people (see my previous posts for how terrible I was at this just a few months ago) and so I wasn't really sure what to do with the number. Ended up having this exchange:

Pretty sure I made a number of basic mistakes in there - didn't build enough rapport, should have called instead of texting, but I'm just experimenting at this stage - I'm okay with errors, as long as they lead to learning.
Went out again tonight - was in a bit of a bad mood, so didn't approach at the first bar I went to, and wandered around for about 15 minutes at the second looking for girls by themselves, before realizing the stupidity of that attitude and deciding to just go for it.
Sat down with a group of three girls and chatted for a few minutes - I was surprised at how receptive they were to a stranger sitting down and joining their conversation. Within a few minutes, a group of four more strangers (to both me and them) had sat down, and so I wrangled them into the conversation as well. Soon myself and 7 others were chatting like old friends, giving me (I'm pretty sure) a hell of a lot of social proof.
The original (and relatively boring) three left, and I hung out with the other four for the rest of the night - another group of three girls and one guy. The guy and I really got along, which I think helped a lot, and I ended up pulling one of the girls aside and asking for her number.
She looked really disappointed and told me that she had a boyfriend. I was pretty clumsy in my approach, but honestly proud that I even had the courage to ask, so I was okay with the rejection. She may have been lying, I have no idea - I bailed soon afterward, having had a pretty good night.
In summary:
Went out on Friday night, approached a group of strangers, then got a different girl's number.
Texted her, got pretty solidly blown off.
Went out on Saturday night, approached a group of strangers, got a huge group conversation going, and then got rejected by the most interesting girl of the group.
What I Need To Learn:
Once you've got everyone in the big conversation (something I'm particularly good at, due to my history as a salesman) - what do you talk about? How do you keep the conversation flowing/interesting?
Text-game. I got the girl's number just as she was leaving, so there wasn't time for more rapport - should I build it over text, or call, or...not even bother? Seriously, I'm completely in the dark here.
Isolation. I was pretty happy with my courage, but my technique was terrible. "Hey can I borrow Lauren for a minute?" Or is that okay? Again, no idea.
Switching targets. If one girl turns out to be dull, or taken...how do you switch targets without it being super obvious?
Vetting: what's a natural way to find out who's single in the group and who's not?
Any advice that anyone could give would be greatly appreciated!
