I was in the city for training this morning (Krav Maga) and decided that since I needed to buy a few things after that, I'd try cold approaching at daytime for the first time in my life.

By the time I finished training and got to the city, I already had a pounding headache, and I pulled my back out slightly at training. Awesome.

First interaction was a girl who called me over in the street. She wasn't really my type, and was clearly working for charity. I decided to chat with her anyway to get "warmed up", and I at least did a bit of teasing. Ended up signing up to this charity anyway, it was a good cause and is tax deductible so why not.

My city has basically one long outdoor strip of shops etc at its core. I saw plenty of great looking girls, but AA got the best of me and I didn't approach any of them. Some of them were in groups, some on their own, were talking on the phone. My inner monologue was telling me that's all excuses and it's because I'm afraid of doing this. I still didn't do it.

After buying what I needed to, my inner voice changed to an angrier one. "Why are you being such a fucking pussy, all you have to do is walk over and talk to this girl. The worst that can happen is she says no. Stop giving a fuck about the outcome. Just fucking do it."

My headache was getting worse and I'd had enough of walking around not taking action. I told myself I'm not leaving until I approach someone, and as if it was made to be, saw a gorgeous blonde girl right in front of me.

I said "hey" and touched her shoulder. "I know this is fucking random, but you are absolutely stunning and I just had to stop you and find out more about you. My name is xhthrow (hand shake)."

Not exactly how I wanted it to come out, but eh. Her response wasn't great, she was sort of "oh okay, thanks" with no grin or overly excited expression on her face. I put that down to my energy being shit. I don't think I was smiling much, probably barely grinning. I don't think my tonality was right either.

I continued and asked her what she was up to on this gorgeous day (it was nice and sunny for once!) and she said meeting up with a friend, and started to walk away.

I ejected and said "Alright, have fun" and left. Came home, didn't approach anyone else. I'm sure there's other things I could have done here to plow through and continue with her, but I just didn't care.

I'm not extraordinarily happy with that, but it was my first cold approach and baby steps are probably useful for me in overcoming AA.

Things I need to work on

  • Not making excuses to not approach (she's not hot enough, she's on the phone, she looks grumpy and unapproachable, and the thousand other ones).

  • Pump my energy levels up a little bit more. Not sure how much being in physical pain screwed with me, but I did not feel on the ball. It's just another excuse anyway.

  • Engaging with girls faster, not taking too long and letting AA win.
