Social status = SMV = l + m + s. Therefore, if you increase looks your smv and therefore your social status will increase

When you improve your look, also you are building self esteem. Which is the key.

Social status isn't only your looks, but looks are pretty key. If you're 6'2" and jacked you'd need to be pretty autistic to not be high in social status. You can be high social status with worse looks, too. So, the two aren't one in the same, but improving one should improve the other.
