So I saw this girl sitting on her own in the same Oslo departure lounge. She's a solid 9, blonde hair, tied in a weaved way that's popular over there. She's cute, she's reading.

So I get on the flight and notice that she's sitting alone, I think, what the hell, at worst I'll get some eyecandy for the flight. I sit next to her and just say "hi".

As the plane is taking off she's obviously looking really uncomfortable. The window blind is down and she's having a bit of a freakout. I feel a bit sorry for her at this point.

I ask "so I take it you don't like flying". She says "no". I tell her I'll take her mind off it while smiling about the slight innuendo. I ask her about what she's reading, it's some Oprah booklist trash but whatevs. She get talking about the author, asks me about my book. The conversation evolves.

She asks what I was doing in Norway, I tell her a couple of funny anecdotes from my roadtrip, she's really into hearing about that as a lot of them haven't seen the north so I'm telling her about the country she grew up in while also making myself look adventurous.

We keep chatting away about our degrees in the same city, our friends, our recently ended relationships, and we queue by the baggage carousel together. Just letting the conversation evolve naturally throughout, not being afraid of a bit of silence - I can prompt things by saying "what do you like about where we live?", "what do you think of Norway?", "what would you recommend doing next time I'm over". These are all questions that could evolve into a conversation because I also have opinions about them.

Our bags came out literally one after another and I made some joke about it being "just like a romance film", she laughed and touched my shoulder.

We kept chatting on the bus about what we had planned for the new semester. That we were excited to be back in the city, what we like doing as we pass famous landmarks, good bars, things I've experienced for a few years now and she's quite new to.

Her stop was a few before mine, she #-closed me.

Lessons learned- 1) Take a chance! None of that would have happened if I didn't think "fuck it" and sat next to her despite being really tired. 2) Don't be afraid of daygame. I think there's a far better chance for a meaningful connection (if that's what you're into). 3) I think gear your intensity to the situation - that was a low intensity encounter.
