Just walk in there and try your plan. What do you have to lose? You said you never see her at school. Although I totally think getting a girls number while she's at work is the complete wrong setting, you should at least try. Only thing you should do is try to be secretive so her co workers don't see or hear. It will embarrass her and she'll be way less likely to respond. But it could definitely work.

got a girls number at work. see her every day, but rarely talk. we started talking and i had to pull some weird semi-game without kino or any real escalation because of the overbearing anti-sexual discrimination atmosphere that my company aggressively promotes. I got the digits, but i may not have clarified the intent well enough. don't shit where you eat, but damn that shit felt great.
