You're in a new city, you have all the excuses to talk to people. When you see interesting looking people, ask them where they're going. Ask them to show you a nice place or to take you with them.

Apart from this, you can mention the fact that you're just here for a few days and you don't know anybody early in the conversation (with a girl or anyone) and it will establish that you have a reason for being out alone. It's also somewhat of a time constraint, which is a good thing.

Same boat, have to travel a lot working as a consultant. Getting a table for 1 at bars or restuarants is a great conversation starter with the hot waitress. Casually throw in youre visiting for work and itll go from there

I just posted something similar, as a software guy too.

What's getting to me is the table for 1 at restaurants... Have you gotten to the point where you just don't care, and if you want to have a dining experience at a decent place, you'll just do it solo?

The key for me is going to a decently crowded bar or club... If I don't open someone right away, I'll look like I'm on a mission, looking at my phone, and walk to the bar decisively. Sometimes it's easier to open guys first, and if I do I'll talk about how I want to meet some local girls, what are they like, any advice? When questioned about my solo-ness, I'll either say something like my buddy was here but apprently got lucky and left with her, aren't I a great wing?, or I'll just be honest and say I'm not from here and just wanted to hang with some locals. I don't invite myself to tag along with them, bc that makes me feel lame, so I either 1) try to demonstrate enough value/ get them to like me enough that they invite me to what's next, or 2) I have something in mind that might be a cool next venue, or event the next day, and hype it up, so that I'm now leading the group to something fun... definitely helps to have smthng to invite ppl to.

Maybe not your issue, but I'd like to be able to make my way into groups during the day. I've run some day game, but I'm too impatient... usually it's a number and maybe you get to see them a few days later. Someone like Krauser is all about insta-dates during day game, like bouncing a girl to a bar just after meeting her. Sounds tough, but I'd like to at least be able to do that.
