How do you guys go about hitting girls up out of the blue ?

I'd say getting a number and using it is fairly time sensitive. Within a week or so. Calling someone up out of the blue, in my opinion, should only be done for a specific reason - not just to "catch up".

If there's a party going on in their neighborhood, or a cool new bar opening up, or something like that. Call, invite them out, and leave it at that... but don't put too much faith into it, unless you made a really great first impression... in which case... why didn't you call earlier?

If it was just a quick #close that went stale then it would be completely pointless unless you are really into numbers game or just feel like shotgun shit out there for the fun of it. I suppose if you set the situation up right from the start then it could work, but you'd know if it was appropriate or not.

I hit girls up "out of the blue" all the time. It usually only works on girls that are desperate and/or really really really liked me and I just ignored them for a while. Otherwise, a girl isn't going to go out of her way to see you unless there is some emotional connection. It takes a lot to get a girl to put her make up on and leave the house, and a call from some random guy she hasn't seen in a while usually isn't enough.

Yea, I personally try not to do this. If I haven't seen a girl around my university in a while I prefer to not text her randomly, but hope that I see her around some time in person. When you see her you can leave a good impression on her, remind her why she was attracted to you in the first place, and then text her and try to get together in person. This also fails if you just never cross paths again.

However, I'm not saying it would never be a good idea to do this. If you really like a girl then by all means go after her, but it's going to be a uphill battle through text.
