College Freshman here.

I'm not a pick up artist, I'm not even remotely interested in becoming one. I just joined to help break out of my shell, and the one tip that has given me the most positive effect out of anything is:

TALK TO PEOPLE.

Guys, girls, cute, ugly, mediocre, barista, classmate, on the street. Just talk about stuff. The weather, the classwork, the big game that happened, Justin Bieber getting arrested. Just talk to them. Once you get comfortable enough in talking to anyone and everyone, the rest of it will fall into place.

I screwed around a lot in college and took some time off. As a result, I graduated a couple years after most of my friends. I had a gf throughout college but she graduated and later broke up with me so I was more or less alone in a college environment that hadn't been great to me. I still remember how nervous I was going back to school and that I only knew 2 people.

One of my best friends is the most charismatic person you've met. He's funny, outgoing and charming as hell. So I tried to approach each social situation as he would with the goal of making new friends. It wasn't organic and I felt a bit phony but within a month I had more friends than I could handle. The "best" fraternity basically adopted me and I never felt like an outcast. The thing was they knew nothing about me. I refused to talk about myself and only focused my efforts on asking about other people and being super positive. I had 4-5 groups of friends and went out 7 nights/week. As a result, my social skills improved dramatically and I got more ass than I could believe.

My goal in every interaction was simple, "Make this person want to see me again." I had that attitude with everyone from janitor to my friends dad who is a billionaire. Maybe, I rubbed a couple people in the fraternity the wrong way and one time a guy pulled rank and told me to get out as it was brothers only. He was immediately told to STFU and get me a beer by the president.

It's really hard to hate the fun, friendly guy who likes to party and if you're that guy you'll run into lots of chicks.
