While some may regard this as too technical or nuanced, I've found (while practicing many of the techniques that Seddit has taught me) that sometimes the most subtle differences in how you say something or come off (body language, tone, eye contact), can lead to big differences in her reaction.
I was chatting with a girl after class today (I am a Sophomore in college) after getting some pretty obvious IOI's from both her and her friend. They were quick to ask me if I was in their discussion section when I sat down near them in lecture, introduce themselves, keep allowing me to thread the conversation etc. After her friend broke off to head to another class, I was left walking with (in my opinion the more attractive of the two) through campus.
Here's where I my question comes in.
The conversation was going excellent. Flowing, good topics, managed to touch on her goals/ambitions for a few minutes (something that I learned to expedite by watching some 21 Convention videos). She was laughing at things I didn't think were that funny (that I had said).
Then I asked her, "Hey, do you mind if I get your number?" I noticed a pause as she had to decide whether or not to give me her number. I can understand why... I was asking for it after maybe maybe 10 minutes of total interaction. She agreed, put it in my phone, and we parted ways.
Question: If I phrased it such as "Hey, let me get your number so we can continue talking about [xyz]!" would it have been more appropriate than asking her for her number directly "Do you mind if I get your number?"? Basically, should I have (by employing euphemism) told her/proposed that she give me her number instead of directly asking for it?
Again, this may be too nuanced and finite to really matter... she did after all give me her number. BUT, for future reference, it seems like something that can really be a conversation-ender, versus a conversation-continuer.
TL;DR: Look at the bolded question.
